Thanks for that. seems a strange situation.
Anyway a nice chunky div coming giving some cash to buy anything seeing as the markets have decided today thank banking is bad and worldwide bad.
Just got to decide where to put that money as plenty of options. Also don't want to catch a falling knife.

3-4 weeks before I can add more funds to my SIPP. No other spare cash without raiding the piggy bank.

I wonder if the mentions within the budget re. Nuclear are having an additional negative impact on RR. It seems more down than on the previous red days.

There's never anyone at blame with these. The people who made the bad bets or investments just jump ship to another investment bank and take their "talent " with them.

They also seemingly get to trade on inside information and barely get a slap on the wrist.

Of course it's the peasants who usually get to pick up the tab.

Anyone else giving HSBC a go? 10% down recently. Maybe not a "big gamble" in the true spirit of the thread but good value? Unless it all goes wrong.

The P/F is down 9% in a little over a week. Brings back memories of the lockdowns of 2020, the 2022 invasion of Ukraine and the 2022 Truss experiment.

Up 15% today! I wish I had...

I suspect they've got a bit more pain yet though.

I don't know....they're basically too big to fail and will be propped up regardless.

They may get dragged down with the market but there's a close to 0% chance they're going bust / getting bought out.

Spin out and sell the investment bank. And hire an AML department worthy of the name.

If that doesnt stem the bleed, SNB take a stake perhap

Hence why I said 'close to 0%' wink

It could happen. But it won't.

Hmm based on my extensive experience of watching telly and half understanding banky stuff, it doesn't seem that unlikely. Why so?

What reason would they have for doing so?

The Central Bank is willing to stand behind them and will pour as much money in as needed.

They are offering them lines of credit not "pouring money in", and SNB will make it clear CS need to get their house in order for that to continue.
