A 1% annual charge on all net wealth over a threshold of approx £100k would be the perfect solution, and we could then scrap IHT and possibly CGT too. It would also be able to fund a sizeable cut in income taxes, whilst also maintaining government revenues.
Or, it would lead to an (increased) exodus and leave the UK poorer.Esquire said:

You say its the opposite of what they have tried to achieve? Where the evidence of they trying to achieve that? Yes, they said some words, but that doesnt mean much. Last lot said lots of words and didnt do anything they said they would.
Id suggest, rather than utter incomptence, they are well on the way to achieving all the things you state in your first sentance. If thats the intention, then they are doing quite well.
Quite, they are destroying any consumer confidence and wrecking business's. You say its the opposite of what they have tried to achieve? Where the evidence of they trying to achieve that? yeah great way to make everyone poorer
That will be after their next budget, they only said no tax rises for the working man in this budget! 50p says they increase them at the next Unfortunately, we were stupid enough to vote them in.

It will not make one iota of difference. As someone said earlier, the next election has already been announced, for 2029.
Quite right , it'll be nothing more than in tomorrows Daily Mail. That said, i cant recall any previous incumbent government to be immediately so unpopular having not only stiffed rival voters but also their own!

If we're talking about pensioners and farners with assets over £1m I don't think they were ever core Labour supporters. they might have voted labour in June because the other lot were so atrocious but I doubt Labour genuinely expected them to stay. That said, i cant recall any previous incumbent government to be immediately so unpopular having not only stiffed rival voters but also their own!
AFAICS (and happy to be corrected) the budget hasn't stiffed the majority of people.
