Thank you! I have drill bits for all occasions wink I may see if I can rig up a way of securing to the back wall (as my current bench is rigged) to stop the cabinet wandering if the vice is receiving some punishment.
Mine came with a little bracket to allow you to attach it to a wall. It's meant to be used as an "anti-tip" bracket, and be permanent. But if you've got enough tools to fill up one of these then it can't be beyond the wit of man to come up with a simple locking system.

A small cam lever or just some wing nuts on threaded rod etc. There's always an answer... you just need the right tools to make it a reality... wink

Yeah, this was why I bought a new one, then reading the setup instructions for the new one realised my old one wasn't crap after all - so now I have 2 (which I think is fine smile ) - the new one is much better though, although I did feel like a right wally when I realised!

You need a proper metal set square to do the setup - pretty straightforward once you get your head round it.
The old Evolutions had terrible slop at full extension when sliding - I sent 2 back and then had similar issues with the 216mm Metabo. I was cutting 9 inch skirting and they could not mitre. Dead accurate when adjusted for cutting CLS, but at full extension, way too much play. Bought a Hitachi (now Hikoki) and after 6 years of abuse, it’s still bang accurate. (I suspect for 4 or 6 inch skirting, they would have been fine - it was only at full extension).

I think the Chinese rebrand saws (including Evolutions/Metabo/Sheppach) had a re-fresh though so are a little better and the quality is improved. The Hitachi/Hikoki I have is still under £200 when on offer though…

Stacks of threaded rod at hand - as you say, not intended to be permanent smile

where is the best place to buy drill bits.
I’m after a new set of metal and wood plus a couple of specialist ads masonary.
There are some uk suppliers on ebay but the prices make me think too good to be true.
This company was suggested previously so I have it bookmarked. https://www.ukdrills.com/
This has also been suggested previously but I think it has gone up in price https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194270094083
We bought a lot of drills and taps from UK drills and they were predominantly made of cheese and the taps cut undersize - They are cheap for a reason!
I suggested the drill bit set I think.

I think they are decent enough - these aren't their super cheap ones. They will cut metal etc no problem.

They probably aren't as good as Dormer etc but the quantity makes it worth it for me - I abuse my bits for DIY, plasterboard etc and so it's easy enough to chuck them if it's not cutting at it's best.

These are great. Mine has lasted well, excellent build quality. Managed to fit it in the back of my old Audi Q7 with a couple of mm to spare!!
Picked one up earlier this year, think it was £699 in store. Decent discount on the Web price of £850?

Got it in the back of the x5, very tight.

It's like those Facebook ads for a fully loaded new tool chest for £80
On a similar note, I am actually interested in getting something along these lines. I do have a roll cab and top box downstairs in my garage currently. It can be annoying going up and down the stairs to my workbench and also going downstairs for tools. So I plan on getting another toolkit without the top box to use downstairs on the garage floor and then move my current toolkit upstairs and integrate it into my main bench as part of my plans to rejig my work areas (I sound like a business, its just my house laugh )

So I keep stumbling along these chests and tools for around £500 which would be ideal as it will give me a small workspace on top downstairs as well. Also my current toolbox is highly disorganised and I have attempted to arrange everything but it never sticks. Compared to the Facom toolchest in work which has all the inserts and locations clearly marked which I like.

So this morning these adverts started popping up again and this one company caught my eye, but there are a few of these companies about selling similar boxes.

Now I have the tool chest on order I am thinking about how to store tools inside the chest… anyone used this? https://www.shadowfoam.com/?gclid=CjwKCAjw5dqgBhBN...

Seen it on Colin Furze YouTube channel and looks pretty decent way to keep things organised, but seeing if anyone else used it?

To be honest unless you're somewhere where you want to be easily able to spot & track what tools might be out of your kit, or you're a neat freak, that stuff just wastes a load of space you could fit more tools in.

If you just want to be organised you could just put things into the drawers in a tidy way? Or use containers & dividers in the drawers.

I've tried all that stuff. IMVHO for day to day tools, nothing works better than a sheet of 8x4 with screws in to hang all your most common tools on.
And then the tool chest for less frequently used stuff.

Those look nice. I am always a little wary of ads that pop up on Facebook. Lots of iffy looking ones. That one seems to have had the domain name registered for a couple of years and the certificate was renewed more than 3 months ago so probably OK. I would look for similar on eBay or Amazon before committing though.

Yeah I tried this for electronics gear.

It worked for about 5 mins until I bought one new tool. Where can it go?
Another month another tool.
Within 6 months it’s all just a big mess of bits in various boxes, a messy new bits box, etc.

It’s probably great for people who have a really very stable toolkit.

Halfords sell sets of tools in foam modular tray inserts for their drawer units. I’m waiting to see if their Easter sale brings any bargains. Though I have wondered about if I ever wanted to add a tool!!

I have several of these modular sets. They don't fit snugly inside the Halfords tool chests (which I also have), so there's space for additional tools.

Yeah, I have this problem as I buy a new tool, then after several new tools, I need a new toolbox.... Then after some time I have several mismatched toolboxes.

Then I have to build a wall for them......

(Temporary labels on the drawers in that picture).

And there is also a problem with the tool-board solution as well....

I bought one of these last year from facebook for around £400 I think - it's all really neatly packaged and ensures I put things back so I can find them again! I can move it around the garage easily so works better than a peg board for me (I also needed a load of new basic tools anyway). The quality is good enough for serious DIY, I don't think I'd want to be relying on it for professional use though

Homebase of all places had sets of imperial Thorsen spanners 5/16 to 7/8 for £7. I bought 2 sets and they have been the absolute mainstay for 8 years now.

I wish I had bought the lot as theyre superb in the hand. Polished chrome and beautiful, totally not what you expect from a DIY store and I havent seen any Thorsen spanners for sale like them anywhere since.
