Hi folks,

Previous owners of our house put a new boiler in and moved it to outside.

Old redundant flue is in the garage still as pictured. Goes up the chimney stack.

It’s metal and fairly thick, I’d like to remove it or at least cut it back to the wall and cover with a vent. Only way I can think of to cut it is with an angle grinder or similar?

Any other (less messy) ideas before I cover everything in a shower of sparks and dust?

Thanks

Hacksaw.
Wet the inside just incase there is anything flamable inside the pipe as you cut.

Maybe a Multitool with a metal blade or a reciprocating saw?

A hacksaw won't cut close enough and in my experience multitools are rubbish on metal.

Angle grinder. And you can then go into the wall a little bit so you can fill and make good.

A good multi tool blade might do it- I would try it first as its the cleaner and safer option

Angle grinder will do it but might leave a messy finish.

With that clearance I’d use a 4” angle grinder. Hacksaws and recip saws might make it difficult. Do check there’s no asbestos flue components further up.

Thanks chaps.

9” grinder and reciprocating saw made short work of it in the end!

Cut off across the pipe with an angle grinder leaving 25mm showing. Now cut along and around the pipe at 25mm spacing creating small tabs around the pipe. When done fold the tabs inwards. Job done no sharp edges.

Give it a good few whacks in all directions. It may come loose. If not use a grinder one reciprocating saw with a 12” hacksaw blade in pushed against the wall to give a flush cut then bash it into the wall before filling the hole.
