Calor quoted me 65p plus VAT yesterday, for a new contract, and then straight away I received an email offering 5p per litre discount if I order before the end of the month.

Does 60p plus VAT sound about right? The last time I paid for a delivery it was 44p plus VAT! We usually receive about 1100 litres.

Thanks

Just had my first delivery in the second year of my contract with these guys. https://www.midlandslpg.co.uk/ It was 43p in the first year and this delivery was still 43p. So not going to have any issues with that.

Always when renewing your contract talk to John from https://www.lpgcompare.co.uk/ he will find you the best price. Calor are the worst to deal with.

No, we're not stuck with Calor, but it’s a bit of a pain to swap.

60-70p? Ok, that’s close enough that I won’t feel ripped off. Thankfully a tankful lasts over a year, doing hot water and heating.

Cheers.

And there’s the thing. Calor have never caused us any bother at all. I tried lpgcompare a few years ago, and boy oh boy, it was just too much trouble. For my own sanity I stayed with Calor.

Perhaps if we were going through 1,000 litres in six months I’d be more inclined to persist.

Crazy it is so easy to change provider, I do it every contract. John just puts you in contact with whoever is cheapest, they check your tank and you wait 2 weeks and the supplier is changed but if you want to pay 30% over the odds it will be easier to stay with Calor, no one else will charge as much to renew a contract.

Calor wont cause any bother, They just charge more than anyone else and over the last 12 years I have tried them all.

I have also used John in the past - he's pretty good.

I agree - Calor are a pain to deal with - they mopped up a load of regional operators like Budget and charge ££ for pretty poor service.

From memory, John saw an anomaly of some sort in something to do with our contract, and he went silent on us.

However, what I might do is try to negotiate a lower price with Calor based on what other providers charge. I doubt I’ll get very far, but it’s worth a go.

Thats strange as John has never asked to see any contract I have. Unless he has some details on file from a revious customer. Tank position is normally the issue as Calor like to change the regs and make tanks they fitted in the past illegal meaning you can't change provider.

In my experience from Calor you will get within a few pence per litre, but they wont match. Where as, phone any other supplier and they will match the cheapest quote. After all every supplier knows what the other suplliers are quoting that day. There are only a handfull of sales people in your area and they all know each other.

Renewed with Avanti in February at £0.46 p/l which was the same as offered by Flogas, who's customer service is woeful.

Avanti have been great for the last 2 years.

The only time i tried to contact Flogas, to get a quote, they promised someone would phone back. That was 7 years ago, so they might phone back soon smile

Been with Avanti twice and they were fine both times.

I just swapped to Flogas, set up by lpgcompare.

Flogas have fixed at 48p for two years, Avanti (who I was with) would not fix the second year.

Swapover was easy and Flogas sorted out a fill within 48hrs because I was running low, Avanti have been quoting 14 days for a while now.

Eta, each time I have phoned Flogas (so far) I have been put through within five minutes. Avanti it is usually over 30 minutes and when they overcharged me just before I went out of contract it took three goes for them to put it right (they actually still haven’t but I am told it is in process now).

A mid term update.

A few emails exchanged with Jon at LPG Compare.
Avanti Gas have stopped taking on new customers, which leaves us with FloGas. I’ll see how it goes with Flogas, but we gave up last time.
Jon reckons something like 52-55p per litre if we can go to them. Ok, it’s a saving, but any aggro at all and it just isn’t worth my time or nerves.

I wonder how regional some of this is?

You are being priced 10+% more than I got a couple of weeks ago which seems odd.

Especially when the second year of my contract is priced at the narket rate and I was charged 43p last week.

I am in Oswestry, on the north Wales border.

Update:

Flogas have provided quotes, and we are going to go with a 12 month agreement, 47p, £90 per year s/c for in ground tank.

Thanks for the advice here. That’s quite a result when considering our lack of choice here for suppliers.
