I have a large-ish area of tarmac that I want removing to replace with a lawn.

I am assuming the best way to do this is a digger plus various grab lorry pick ups.

My question is what is the going rate for:

i) Digger and operator for the day
ii) Pick up for a grab lorry

I am assuming that any digger operator worth his salt will have a connection with a grab company who can lift on demand, is this a good assumption?

Area is Northampton in case anyone reading is a digger operator and looking for a job

Thanks

Ben

We've just done the same and from memory it was about £425 for digger and driver inc VAT per day and about £300 per grab lorry. We moved around 120 tonnes and the digger driver organised all the grabs.

I then did another smaller job myself and hired a digger for around £275 for 2 days and organised the grabs myself at the same rate.

We are in Nottinghamshire/Leicestershire border.

£250 cash for a grab wagon up norf. As you suggest, any experienced digger operator will know the local grab wagon outfit. Digger hire varies due to size of machine, I had a 8t one for 2 weeks just gone for £400 a week, operator was £220 a day. (All plus insurance and fuel deposit).

Quite a lot of variation depending on what size of digger but you can definitely do a fair bit better than £425+vat a day here in Aberdeenshire. Look for a one man band type setup, they'll be cheaper, probably more knowledgeable and they should have decent contacts for other things you need. Avoid the more corporate style bigger companies.
