In your drama-laden outburst of testosterone and mid-life-crisis fuelled angst, you seem to neglect the fact that all I asked was "why do people like to kill animals?". No more, no less.

I guess it touched a nerve though...
KH you are being unreasonable now

Several people that shoot, use dogs, fish etc have told why they like doing it, you are just responding with insults frown

Well that's two of us with some perspective anyway smile

Old British trick - if no way out, laugh. Foreigners hate it.

I'm off to machine-gun some Persian kittens.

I have been clay shooting for a year or two and went pigeon shooting for the first time last week. It is a totally different thing and i enjoy doing both for different reasons.

With shooting live quarry, I got a lot of enjoyment sitting in the hide watching the wildlife as i was waiting for the pigeons to come out, and then watching the pigeons decoy into the pattrern and waiting for the opportune time to shoot. I do find it satisfying making a good sporting shot, and am now very happy with a freezer full of pigeon.

I also have no doubt in my mind that a wild bird that has lived outside its whole life and then humanely shot is better than a farmed animal that has lived its whole life confined by 4 fences, however humanely killed it is. The whole subject is just a matter of opinion though.

I can understand why people are'nt interested in shooting, but for me, i enjoy it as i am helping out the farmer, i spend the day doing something i love and i have a load of meat at the end of the day which i can be proud of getting for myself.

Your crazed blood lust makes me sick. You should buy your meat from the supermarket like everyone else.

AM I being unreasonable Ali??? People tell me it is all about the day, all about the atmosphere, all about the social circle, all about something, but I'm still asking why do people actually LIKE to kill animals themselves, to put a bullet into one. I don't want to hear rhetoric about how it is better than an abattoir. Or quicker than poison. Or more humane than dog hunting.

If people go shooting, on their own, privately, in the woods, like you see in Deer Hunter or similar, what is it they actually like about the killing of a magnificent animal. Millions of Americans do it as a full time hobby but not so many in the UK for obvious reasons.

And yes, we've heard the explanation that they don't know, that it is instinct, but I'm asking if anybody DOES know, and CAN explain it.

I'm NOT ranting against hunting, or conducting a one man hunting ban, I don't particularly CARE if people hunt, I'm just asking a simple question about something I simply can't get my head around: Why do people like to put a bullet into a live animal, when most of the population are happy to simply watch it, film it, or stroke it, or see it at a zoo.

If a guy put a bullet in your cat or dog, you'd rant and rave and DEMAND to know why he did it. So why is it so hard for anybody to explain why they want to do it to other animals?

If somebody CAN tell me the answer, then please do so, if you can't then don't respond with negativity, excuses or abuse. I'm not judging, I'm just asking.

To eat them, is pretty much the simple answer.

The hunt, the chase, the thrill of tracking, killing, cooking & eating your own food.

From what I understand is because they don't see it as a 'live animal', they see it as Game. They wouldn't dream of hunting or killing any other animal that wasn't Game.

Big Game is different as you know, you've read WS, so you know the reasonings, both good and the bad behind that frown

I understand Game hunting, although all I've ever did was flush & retrieve with my Springer (when I had her), the day itself was thrilling.
