A week last Saturday our cat wasn't around for her breakfast, which was unusual even if she'd been out all night. We asked around, and someone in the village had found a (dead) cat had taken it to a local vets.
It was ours, technically she was our sons. He'd been given her when he was 8 or 9 by a class mate who was moving to a house that didn't allow pets. We were gutted, as she was the nicest natured cat I have ever known, and I've lived in households with cats for nearly 50 years.
My wife was firm that he and I were not allowed to go and get a cat, and that she'd like a dog.
However, her resolve didn't last long, and on Friday last week she informed me that we had to go pick up two kittens that a friend of a friend had taken in as their owner was going to euthanise them.
This is Daisy and Maple (my cats as it is my birthday this week, but the names were chosen by my wife who didn't like my choice of names, Gadget and Gizmo).

Boy cats are much more pack social than girl cats IME.
When I got my first kitten we worried about how he would get on with the old Tom across the road. They became good friends and you could see the old boy teaching ours how to stalk/hunt. The owners of the other cat said it was great, had really made him become more active and fulfilled.

True. I get visited by 2 cats every day (not mine!) and the bigger male is quite reserved and just wants company and somewhere to doze. The small female can be quite aggressive, routinely hisses at the male and makes his life difficult - before departing again after they've both had some food. I'd guess they're about the same age (4-5) but are poles apart in other respects. When I got my first kitten we worried about how he would get on with the old Tom across the road. Sorry to hear that. Must be bloody heartbreaking when something like that happens. I'm glad you've got two new beauties - two new bundles of life to be a servant for!It was ours, technically she was our sons. It was on the cards, I've been working away and just got back an hour ago. Mrs Nemesis didn't tell me that Millie died last Tuesday. Millie was 21 years old and 3 months.
Millie was found in a plastic bag with a couple of dead siblings at a couple of days old, we were allowed to take her home when she was 4 weeks old.
To say I am upset is the understatement of my life, I was never a cat lover in my youth but I am feeling something that I can't explain.
