It's Caturday- Post some cats (vol 3)
Discussion
It was on the cards, I've been working away and just got back an hour ago. Mrs Nemesis didn't tell me that Millie died last Tuesday. Millie was 21 years old and 3 months.
Millie was found in a plastic bag with a couple of dead siblings at a couple of days old, we were allowed to take her home when she was 4 weeks old.
To say I am upset is the understatement of my life, I was never a cat lover in my youth but I am feeling something that I can't explain.

I am so sorry for you and your family. You certainly gave her the life that some scumbuckets tried to erase. Bless you BN and may your memories be filled with Millie-furc-ations.We were at the Vets on the 2nd & the receptionist was getting upset, we couldn't help but overhear as we were the only ones there "we wanted to call with an estimate for Cocoa's treatment..... okay, so you can surrender her, you can pay for the treatment, or there is euthanasia. No, I'm not asking you for money to treat her, I'm just giving you the options. Please don't shout at me, you are her legal owner according to the microchip and we cannot do anything to help her without your permission or you surrender her to us"
At that point the Vet called us in. Treated Cas (burst abscess) and I asked about the situation as I couldn't bear to think of a cat put down over £ - he said he couldn’t tell me anything legally unless they surrender her, in which case he will call me.
We had the call last Friday, so went to meet her - she had 2 wounds to her abdomen - consistent with landing on a fence - we agreed to take her on, so Tuesday they operated and fixed her.
Coco aka Little Miss Sassy Pants is 11yo, had been missing for just shy of a year and came to her forever home on Wednesday.
She’s very affectionate, but also scared, and is crated in our spare room with a Pet Remedy diffuser, the radio & lots of visits whilst she recovers.
But I’m worried about her, can cats cry? She looks like she’s been crying in the mornings, and that picture (the 1st one) was the most animated we’ve seen her apart from fresh food time - she has constant biscuits), the rest of the time she just lies there.
What can I give her to enrich her cage that won’t affect her healing wounds?
It’s a large cage, 3 dog crates put together in an L shape so she has areas for a bed, toilet & feeding.

Aww that's so kind of you, what a heart warming story. Have to say I'd have done the same. At that point the Vet called us in. Continual weeping or sticky discharge from the eyes could be an infection, mentioned it when you take her back to the vets for her check up (assuming given the surgery she'll be going back in a few weeks?). As she's been wild a awhile could just be a very basic infection.
As for her being timid, my Mum took on two reduces over the last two years. One was from an old lady, the other was a stray. The stray was the most affectionate cat form day one, proper little attention seeker. The other took months to warm up to people, about 3 to just be in the same room from memory. But a year later he's just as loving as the other one now, so yours being stand offish is nothing unusual.
You don't want her jumping about too much, so perhaps some treat mats/mazes would be good? You can get these mats off amazon where you hide treats under flaps etc and you can leave them in there with her to play with on her own. My two love them but they're quite clever and greedy so they last about 2 mins

ali_kat lucky Coco
Our rescue Snowy has never been the same since he lost his brother Tiny. The year after, he was given weeks/months to live. 2.3 years later, he reached the grand old age of 20 this Wednesday. Miraculous, though he's now on a high dose of Prednisolone and has arthritis in his hands, so more drugs.
Don't be afraid to push the vet to increase the dose to the maximum.

Thank you all, nice to know I’m not the only softy That’s a really great idea Steve, thank you!
Her eyes are ok today, the Vet said they’d check them on Monday when they do her post op, they also reassured me that she’s going to stay very still for a while

True! The first time we saw Cas _really_ sleep (as in unaware we’d come in the room) was amazing It is early days, let her heal and adjust. That £1 pack of ping pong balls was the best cat toy I ever bought. Her favourite game is to sit halfway up the stairs for you to throw them up and her to bat them back down, which does give the added advantage of not having to crawl round on your hands and knees trying to retrieve them. Or sometimes give them some good old bunny kicks, followed by staring off into the distance as if contemplating the meaning of existence (like "I wonder if that human does anything besides feed me, give me attention and sleep?")
