Pink spot on/by dogs nose.
Discussion
Just wondering if any of our resident vets/dog experts can give me their thoughts on this. Appeared a few weeks back on our Scotties nose, well next to it.
It’s definitely grown a bit but not hugely, she doesn’t seem to be in pain or uncomfortable and you can push on it and she’s not bothered. Some Googling suggests a ‘mast cell tumour’ and that it’s likely benign. Trip to the vets to be told the same or more worrying?
TIA

I guess that depends on your appetite for risk.
I’m guessing (and I’m not a vet) that they’d do a fine needle aspiration and have the sample sent off for analysis. One of our dogs had a similar but smaller thing on her eyelid so we had the FNA done but by the time the result came back it had grown a bit and I wasn’t in the mood for taking any chances given its proximity to her eye and the prospect of losing it so we had it removed. She’s right as rain now and a second lab report confirmed it was benign. You could view that as a waste of god knows how many £00’s of course but the bulk was covered by insurance.

Mast Cell Tumour.......they aren't usually benign!! But the similar histiocytoma is much less worrying as long as is can be removed or left with no issues.
The site of this lump is at best awkward, there may be some very good oncologist/surgeons who can deal with the physical aspect of the lump but not for regular vets IMHO
So, go get an opinion, probably with an FNA, which at least should give more info regarding malignancy.
We are now past a nasal histiocytoma and on to a strange mast cell tumour thingy on a tongue of one of ours.......

As an update, went to see the vet, they thought it might be a sting or could be something more serious, hard to know.
Prescribed some drugs for a week to stop her itching it, over that week it pretty much doubled in size, went back and they tried to take an FNA sample which Daisy absolutely did not want.
Booked in again and yesterday she was under general anaesthetic and had a biopsy/lump removal. Results will be back this week hopefully.
I’ll update again when I can.
