Just an update -

We’ve arrived at our destination after 2 days of driving and 2 hotel stays.

She was pretty chilled in the car. Meows for the first part of each journey then just relaxed.

We had a cage that took up the whole of the Land Rover boot, so room for a bed, litter, food and water.

Seemed to enjoy the hotels too - came out of the cage straight away to explore.

She’s now making herself at home in the house.

Excellent.

Enjoy your stay. I'm sure she'll be fine.

Took our cat to the arse end of nowhere in Scotland a few years back, about 7 hours driving to get there. Would have been quicker with a ferry in the middle but didn't fancy putting the cat on there but I guess you have no choice. He was a bit stressed in the car, lots of meowing but eventually just settled down and was a bit curious, up at the window etc. which got a few funny looks from passersby. Girlfriend sat in the back with him the whole time, and his litter tray was in there which he did use for a st unfortunately. He was a bit stressed for a day or two on holiday, but again was eventually just really curious. Tried to climb up the flue in the bedroom and then mostly just sat watching the ferries pass on the loch.

One massive mistake we made and it still gives me the heebie jeebies to this day is about 5 hours in we stopped for a break and put him on his harness and let him out of the car. He got under our car and then slipped the harness. Cue the van next door letting a dog out; not their fault at all but I could have murdered them at the time. I had to reach under the car and grab the cat by the neck and just pull him out and throw him in the car. My heart is racing just talking about it. We were in the middle of some woods too so if he'd shot off that would have been that I reckon. We tried to let him out again at the accommodation (with a tight harness!) but he was having none of it.

Also the accommodation owner was a bit iffy about us having the cat there because she thought we were gonna let him out and he was gonna fetch back his kills. Which is mad really when you consider how much mess/carnage a dog makes.

We've since had him to the Dales a couple of times which has been fine, much shorter drive, about three hours. He's getting on a bit now so probably only got one more holiday in him before it becomes too stressful on the old lad.

YMMV of course as no two cats are alike really.

Edit: I see you're already on holiday! I thought it was still Match haha. Enjoy yourselves.

We moved house a few years ago. Five hours drive away.

We tried the cat on a couple of shorter runs and she suffered with motion sickness. We got some tablets from the vet which we gave up on after getting scratched to bits.

However, when we moved, our estate car was filled to the rafters with stuff and the cat ended up in her crate in the middle of the car and able to look out the front windscreen.

She was fine and seemed to enjoy the ride.
