I never understand why people do this. Get to the airport in plenty of time and have a relaxed bite to eat/drink, or have your contingency time soaked up and arrive unflustered and still with some time in hand.

I regularly drop a relative to Heathrow, 100 miles up the M4 from Bristol. When I suggest (insist) on allowing 3 hours for the journey, she looks at me like I am insane every time.
