Going to turn 50 next Feb and also 25th wedding anniversary so just booked 3 weeks in Jackson Hole. Can't wait for it. Got an apartment in Teton village.

Been twice before, once for our very belated honeymoon in 2008 and the last trip was 2015.

Price has gone up by pretty eyewatering amounts but got plenty of time to save between now and then! Certainly going to miss the exchange rate we had in 2008!

I've just booked an appartment in Valmeinier for the kids first ski trip in early Jan next year - they will be 3,6 & 9. Gone for the 'make sure they have a great first trip' attitude so making it a bit of an adventure driving down and not anticipating a huge amount of time skiing myself but it will be a great first time for the kids. If anyone has skied here it would be good to hear your thoughts.

Also looking to book at the end of Jan for a long weekend with colleagues - 10-12 of us going - if anyone has any recommendations? Only criteria are 90min max transfer and somewhere with a bit of apres, doesnt have to be booming. Mix of abilities but we are open to catered chalets etc.

I’m holding off until much closer to the time as the conditions this season were all over the place with many resorts resembling spring meadows with T-shirt/factor 30 weather. Certainly was in Austria! If I do go it will be to one of the higher resorts.

My ski boots are knackered. Been trying to find a pair of Atomic Hawx Uktra Professionals. Absolutely sold out. I suspect the latest season ones will be a hit, with few discounts, sadly.

I did get some end of season bargains - a set of Line Blades plus Tyrolia Attack Protector bindings for around £350 was a great deal. Looking forward to trying these unusual skis out. Bought them short at 168cm for some really silly short turns and switch carving. Also got some Red Bull Spect magnetic goggles with two lenses for £60, which was a good deal.

Booked PdS for 2 weeks at Easter, as usual. A client ski trip should happen as i'm told that I'm on the permanent invite list after my ski/nightclub antics this year (and i sent them a hamper to their office to say thank you - extravagant thank you gifts work, clearly!), and a Canada heli trip, again with work.. '25 is looking good! I am a lucky boy, and intend to keep doing this all for as long as I can.

Not doing the Feb half term thing next year, though. Too crowded, too annoying. The kids will get plenty of skiing at Easter.

Heads up for those who might be considering a trip to Jasper this year (not many here, granted).
The town has been evacuated because it's currently fighting off a wildfire which has already claimed Maligne Lodge and has started on Fairmont JPL. It's not looking good for the rest of the town right now.

I'm looking forward to next season already - my daughter is in Perisher, Australia & I'm jealous. I have to wait until December.

Purchases so far, new Line skis because some random bloke on the internet said they were good smile some new bindings because they were cheap, despite already having bought some inserts, tools, different width brakes & a pillar drill, so that I didn't need to buy more bindings.....

185 Blade Optic 104 smile

My wife thinks I'm nuts - not only do I intend using green skis with my red boots, but I bought them because someone who I've never met, let alone ski'd with - who has never seen me ski, I've never seen him ski - we don't even ski in the same place - said they were good.

The widest I have are 97's - so a fully justified purchase IMHO

I did suggest that I could buy new boots if she was going to be particularly offended.....

I have exactly those skis, in the 185 length. I absolutely love them, and use them as soon as the snow softens (I use a pair of 165cm slalom skis for the early morning on piste) Was it me that recommended them??

Heavy buggers, but you can lay them right over and carve, as well as either slice/smash through or drift sideways at speed on slush.

A friend commented this April that I was laying them right over in slalom turns - honestly, easy to do. Got to be a combination of big rocker, pliable tips and them being super stuff under the boot. They also ride switch at speed beautifully. Not great agility in moguls, but a) i went long and b) they're so heavy and damp that you can basically straightline them if the show is soft smile. Incredibly stable when landing jumps, backwards or forwards. A real Swiss Army knife of a ski as long as the snow is soft or at least sidewall depth.

Replaced my ancient Whitedot Preachers, with zero regrets.

I even use them for teaching the kids! They are that friendly to use. I've got the new Tyrolia Attack Protector bindings on them, to protect my knees from low speed falls when doing this! Many are the times I have picked a child up, overbalanced and wiped out at 5mph: a classic knee injury scenario.

Yep - I even got them from the same place but they were slightly more discounted after the season ended - another 5% IIRC smile

I'm looking forward to giving them a go. I have 183 Blizzard Bonafide 97's and like them, as well as 170 Head eRally 78's which I find OK, but everyone else seems to love. I'll also buy something narrower if I see anything at a good price.

Off to Serre Chavalier for New Yesr with a good chunk of the extended family, around 17 of us in a single chalet, should be interesting.

Does mean you can get reasonable accommodation at a reasonable price when you're splitting it so many ways.

Only issue is the Luc Alphond was where I had a nasty crash, 5 surgeries and counting so a little apprehensive about that.

All my kit is race gear so will just hire stuff. It'll be the first time for the kids at 3 and 4.

I don't really like the Head e-Rally. Too soft, can't quite trust them at speed and very high edge angles when you are putting a lot of force through them, I found (had them as rentals in Austria). Same as the old Head Titans - too soft in the tip and tail for proper SL turns, not wide enough to be a true all-rounder. Given European conditions these days (icy mornings, slushy the rest of the day) I take a proper SL ski out first, and switch to a fun slushbuster (like the Lines) for the afternoon, when on piste. If I want to do tricks, moguls or touring, I have a pair of DPS Cassiars that are light and manouvrable. We drive, so all three come along!

I do really rate Head's their stiffer consumer slalom skis though: I am replacing my busted up Atomic S9s with some Head e-SLs, as soon as I can find a deal - they are pricey!

My wife has just started using the Blizzard Sheeva 9 and loves them. She's a very, very good skiier (ex-mogul competitor) so demands a lot of her skis. She went from an ancient pair of Line Celebrity 90s (used until they broke).which she really rated. Unlike me, she doesn't really love slalom turns, so doesn't bother with SL or GS skis.

Thanks - good to know that it's not just me smile

I can't find any compelling offers on-line, but there may be something when I get to Andorra for the winter.

I'm too old for tricks, so I don't need to worry about that side of things.
