Gen Z ste by the looks of it.

Us real men used to try watch a grainy version of Smokey and Bandit, on a screen at the far end of the cabin, before having a fag while looking out the door window of our Braniff.

I'm a Raw Dogger. I pack books load books/films/articles onto my tablet and never read or watch anything and end up watching the world go by.

Seems that way. I guess it's like planking (remember that trend?) but you don't look like a numpty for a minute in public. And still a waste of time.

Later I'm going to raw dog read by staring at the book cover for 5 minutes and resist opening the book but first I'm going to raw dog code an app by just looking at my keyboard for 5 minutes.

There appears to be this need to jump on trends and make a real fuss about it. I guess we can blame social media for that. So what we're really reading here is people posting about wasting time doing sweet FA on a flight?

Anyway, I'm going to raw dog the Wimbledon tennis for a bit by staying at home and not switching the TV on.

I am so down with the kids.

No, you have to sit and suffer so you can tell people afterwards how much you suffered.

I can't think of anyone that would be the slighest bit interested or impressed by my feat of fortitude...

It's obviously the ultimate way to prove yourself worthy of a special forces interrogation training exercise whilst never having the discomfort of a cold ditch.

Why????

Flying is boring. There is no scenery to look out and you’re confined to your seat for the duration.

Why wouldn’t you distract yourself with in-flight entertainment or getting a book out or whatever.

Making yourself bored out of your mind when entertainment is available just for ‘likes’ is moronic.

As a child I did this as I hated the food and my eyesight was terrible so couldn't really concentrate on a film, I will put a hoodie on backward, put the hood up and go to sleep.

As an adult I want life to be nice, so wouldn't bother doing that now, short haul a cuppa and a book is perfect, longhaul a few beers some food and a film or 2 is a great way to get through the flight.

This is the first time I have ever felt the need to talk about this pretty boring aspect of life/holidays wink

1998 flying Madrid to São Paulo on Varig. No film, no music, I had an inflight safety card and that’s all for ten hours. It wasn’t fun but was with colleagues so we chatted and survived. Economy on Varig was woeful as was the plane.

If sleeping qualifies, I did it after a three week Greyhound tour of the States. Arrived at Dulles (Washington DC), cadged a place on a supposedly freight-only VC-10 in from Belize, and slept all the way to Lands End (having a whole row of seats to stretch out on definitely helped biggrin ). Was given the pilot's alternate choice(fruit salad) breakfast and landed at Brize Norton.

I enjoy sort of zoning out in my own thoughts on flights. Long haul though I will watch a film.

one film? What do you term a long flight?

Just did Auckland to LHR, via Shanghi. Bloody awful flight. If I wasn't racist at the start of the flight, I was at the end.

Anyway, did it all with no book, and no film. But I did take sleeping tablets. Does that count?

Used to do it kinda involuntary, I’d a regular 4hr ish flight to Doha before getting flight back to UK a few years back.

Old planes, (velour seats & ashtrays) no entertainment & travelling on my own.
Used to just zone out, & declined food & drink as it was funny tasting strong tea & some weird lamb sausage roll thing that the taste stayed with you a while…..
