But it’s an interesting concept. Anybody here raw-dogged a long haul flight?
It sems like a stupid concept. And no, not done it and won't be.......This fad is fatuous and matches with Tiktok, which mostly depletes your IQ
I did Sydney to LAX on my gap year in 1999 as a scummy student. It's a 16 hrs segment.
I had no music, no book, and the 747 was old tech and I was in Economy, so no in flight entertainment. I was 6 months in to a round-the-world trip.
It was a mid week flight and massively underbooked. The cabin attendants took pity on me and immediately gave my three half bottles of red wine. Which I drunk in the first 30 mins of the flight.
Fell asleep in the middle seating rows, across 5 seats and woke up 8 hours later.
8 hours sleep, brilliant!
"are we nearly there yet, please madam?"
"sorry sir, another 8 hours to go"

It is amazing to think back to the experience back when there was no in flight entertainment/laptops/tablets/phones etc.
Sometimes a film shown on a small screen at the front, with folk smoking away in the cabin until 1997!!
(It sickens me nowadays in bars/restaurants where smoking is still legal the thought of sitting on a plane in that environment fills me with horror)

The English are lucky, the outer reaches of Europe 4 hours max, East Coast of America 8 hours. Spare a thought for the Kiwi’s, unless they’re going to the Cook Islands or Aus, they will be looking at some serious flying time, Europe 20 odd hours, West coast of the US 14 hours, I’m guessing they aren’t indulging in any stupid shenanigans, involving dogging on aeroplanes.

For me, door to door is about 40 hours*, including drivetime to & from airports, transit etc. Cattle class is never fun. Has become f'cking expensive, too.- longer if the cheaper flight insists on 8-10 hour stopover in some airport you have no desire to be in
Ive done it a couple of times - not by design though - but both on London to Bangkok routes
The first was a Qantas flight and the IFE in the section I was in was out of service. I didnt have a watch or anything either and kept dozing off so didnt know what time it was, how long had passed, how long was left. It was torture.
The second time was BA - the IFE was out on the few rows around us. The cabin crew took pity on us and just plied us all with booze for the whole flight - it was great and made some great friends with the people around us in the same situation. Granted we were all pretty squiffy by the time we landed!
I wouldnt do it out of choice or design though - bloody stupid concept and certainly not something "new"

Why didn't you bring a book? I did Sydney to LAX on my gap year in 1999 as a scummy student. It's a 16 hrs segment.

Not done it by choice, but I do find it difficult to watch films, read books or sleep on a plane. I don't know what it is but I just seem agitated being on a plane so can't relax enough to get engrossed in a book or film.
Fortunately most of our holidays are in Europe these days, so that's about 4 hours max.

Apparently If you slept then you didn't "raw dog". You have to stay awake. The first was a Qantas flight and the IFE in the section I was in was out of service.
