Family Hotels in London

OK, so we only live 40 miles north of London, but 3 or 4 times a year as a family we like to spend a Saturday and night and a Sunday morning in London, seeing a show, good meal, market, etc. My kids are 9, 12, 13 and we normally stay in a friends flat.

However, I'm sick of imposing, and wondered if anyone knows of a non-chain hotel where you can get a family room for 5 or where they will give you two rooms adjoining?

Central would be good...
