"Dude" annoys me, but as it's not a phrase, does it count?

When you meet someone who gets offended at being called mate, they're doing you a favour, because they are warning you that you definitely would not want to be their mate if they're so easily offended and pissy about things hehe
As a SE Londoner I find it odd that some people have an issue with it and in my time on PH I must have seen this mentioned 10-20 times.

Would the same people have a problem with being referred to as "my friend"? Would they think, "But I'm not your friend"?
Funny you should mention that. There is a YouTube called Ocean liner Designs presented by a guy called Mike Brady, who introduces manyof his videos with 'I'm your friend, Mike Brady'.. Winds me up every time. He is not my friend. Seems like an OK guy, but we haven't met. I should contact him and ask him to lend me $500. Then we'll see!
His videos, however, are generally excellent.
Absolutely, that's why I put up with the 'I'm your friend' nonsense!

There is Wossisname who does the High Peak Autos videos. He often uses phrases like "so I thought I would bring you guys along to look at the car with me". When, of course, we haven't been anywhere. But, it's harmless, I suppose.

I honestly don't know how we started using this for what is just a meeting. Seems people just gave up on the fact it's a specific type of meeting and just started applying it to anything.

Boardroom.

Used to be where company board meetings were held, now it just means a meeting room, but generally larger than other meeting rooms.

'User-name checks out'. I've seen it used here and there, occasionally directed towards myself. Is it pejorative?
It's people trying to be clever by thinking they've identified an example of nominative determinism, without realising that you chose your username.

And yes, it's (usually) perjorative.
I don't agree. I've used this when I find something someone's written funny given their username - either ironically or strangely apt. It's nothing to do with nominative determinism and in my case, never meant perjoratively. I may on occasion think I've spotted something that others may not have noticed and hopefully not as obvious as Mr. Titanic having "that sinking feeling".

I chose my username with a sense of irony. There are some PHers who think they can win an argument by just posting "Username checks out" withna smug grin.

I didn't get where I am today by calling myself Doofus without knowing whether or not I was one.

Don't watch The Big Lebowski!

There's a strange regional dialectical tic I really struggle with. It's northern I think.

So rather than saying "Are you using that" they will say "Are you NOT using that", or "Did you NOT like that" the not completely throws me.
