How big is where you live?

Small village 5 miles outside the UK's #1 Russian tourist attraction and UK Novichok centre. Just over 500 people, approx 180 houses. Pub, shop, primary school, church and village hall. Work in London so suits me perfectly....

I wouldn't say middle of nowhere, there are a few houses around me, but it's definitely not busy. Until summer that is, then what seems like a million people descend on the local holiday parks.

Our local is 2 doors away. But it shut for a month after we moved in.

So from that description I’m in and out of the arse end frequently!


I also wonder if the previous owner of our house was keeping the place afloat!

Not exactly sure how to answer. I live in Gateshead (approx 200,000) but this is part of a larger metropolitan area (Tyneside) which is around 900,000 and to anyone from outside this area it is to all intents and purposes one big place, even though the locals are strangely tribal at times.

I went from Coggeshall (around 5k) to London (nearly 9m)... Always enjoy heading back to the countryside though

I suggest a minimum of 100 mile round trip to the nearest supermarket / bank etc.

I’m not that bad but ..

There are three houses in my “hamlet” surrounded by farms, pop about 8

The nearest pub, which has a small shop in it, selling the basics, is two miles away

The nearest village is 6 miles .. has a population of 500 .. one supermarket, one church and six pubs

The nearest large town with two supermarkets pop 5k is 20 miles away and has a bank and cash point

The nearest big town ( they call it a city pop 79k ) has a hospital and traffic lights and is about 40 miles away

Just 12 people in 7 houses. Hamlet in rural Ayrshire. We haven't even got a sign to say you've arrived.
