All the talk about lifting restrictions and a phased return but let’s talk about the important stuff....

What are your predictions to when we will be able to go to the pub on a busy Friday night again without any restrictions?

I’m going to go with mid September for pubs open as normal

Which is my day off, it’s perfect. Everyone has to go back to work and I can go to the pub.

Unfortunately I think public meeting places such as Restaurants, pubs, cinemas etc will not be open as normal for some time.

Then the Government will need to seriously think about extending the furlough scheme as they will go bust just like anything else if it goes on too long.

You can go to the pub anytime you want to.*
It's just that you're not allowed in... frown

I think next year for pubs as a worst case.

I expect a big chunk will never reopen.

Best case will be September imho as that’s when they are talking about schools reopening

This for sure my local were struggling had a 30% drop in sales family members leaving the business due to money concerns and then going from 5 staff to just 2 ( 3 zero hours and couldnt give them anything) . It was a ghost town on a Friday / Saturday from 8pm.

Yet the other local pub is aimed at the less delightful audience and was packed most nights but you can have nose powder to have with your pint and your shoes stick to the carpet when leaving the place!

We might have the Swedish system for a while whereby we'll be able to go to pubs and have table service but not stand at the bar.

Totally agree. Bar area closed but table service for drinks and reduced tables also to keep us apart.

I think this will be September though

I’d guess most pubs are only viable because they survive on a busy Friday or Saturday night when drinkers are packed shoulder to shoulder. If social distancing was maintained, even if reduced to 1m, I can’t see them getting enough punters inside at once to make it profitable.

That being said, my guess is that they’ll keep the vulnerable isolated and protected and let everyone else get on with life. So I’m going to go with July for young folks and next March for everyone else.

What about using the toilets....1 in 1 out ?

It doesn't sound like it would work in practice

Oh well you can't have everything.

Perhaps the joy will be lost pubs for a while. Sitting around glumly, in masks, gloves, hand sanitiser and dettol spray at the ready.

How do you chug-a-lug a pint, and scoff your cheese and pickles, let alone chat up the barmaid.

Next year.

Nothing getting back to normal until testing is common place.

And that is going to take at least half a year.

Even if you're allowed does anyone think it's going to be anything like before.

Seriously doubt it.
