Concerned, I asked Battert if he'd seen my Vacation Request Form that I left on the Hon. Sec's desk. He agreed there had been a piece of paper on the desk but it didn't take kindly to the large piece of lardy cake he put on it, and he threw it away when he tidied up.

Sorry.
Ah, there you are Dicky!

And... just where are you, old boy? Somewhere 'hot' I shouldn't wonder?

Scarborough????

England showed good spirit but it's Ireland's well earned day today.
Fantastic!

Still not sure if I will have a beer though.
Indeed, Ireland are well-deserved winners.

Why not a small tipple to celebrate, Magoo old boy?
Im very happy for Ireland's victory etc but other matters have put a shadow on stuff and I'm afraid once I start I might not stop until oblivion.
That will undo all I've achieved so far.

Well done Ireland

I'm annoyed that this is the first time this 6N that England have looked like they wanted to play as they can.
Agree spikeyhead, they should have started the six nations as they played that game, it doesn't bode well for the world cup!!!
That there world cup belongs over here, gentlemen. And no mistake. wink

Still in Trivbury, pq. Tomorrow I travel to Trivchester to babysit granddaughter #1 until Thursday, then home, and then, on Sunday next week, I have to it again! Clearly, an oil change was called for.

Now, I've been tinkering with cars since the late 1960s. Could I change the oil on the Audi? No, I couldn't. I couldn't get it highbenough. And me in my state of health. Ashamed, I called my chap what fixes my non-service-history cars and drove over there to his premises which are untroubled by any form of radio signal. It's like a cross between an MI6 safe house and a Faraday Cage with a four post lift. And spanners. And a large amiable old dog. And chickens.

Consequently, I'll be out of action for most of tomorrow as well, as I travel north on my velocipede.

Oh! You should have said? I have a set of high drawlic car ramps which raiseses one's motor, with ease, to perform such tinkering from beneath, and much more, should the urge be upon you.

That's kind, pq, I'll remember that. Trouble is, by the next time I need to raise a car to comfortable working height I'll have been banned from any form of physical activity for my wellbeing.

I'm thinking of making the Audi respectable instead of buying something to replace it. Me tinkering and capable professionals doing real work on the car may the way to go. The engine warning light has been on most of the time since I bought it. Four different garages attempted to sort it out but I decided to save money and run it with light on until the car expired. Four years later it soldiers on. The MoT tester tuts, couples up his electrickery, turns the light off, and issues the MoT. The light comes on again almost immediately. It's a 2005 A4 Avant 1.8T quattro with 110,000 miles on it that's worth about £3.65 on a good day. It may be worth saving.

I too am a firm convert and believer in The Joy of Shedding.

The old C-Ma_ is well past it's sell-by date, but continues to plod ever onwards.

There, that's probably well & truly put the mockers on it! rolleyes
I can forsee it on it's final journey, dragging itself painfully along on one remaining wheel hub, bits of mangled bodywork trailing behind, a wet sweet-smelling slick of antifreeze trickling out from underneath its' vitals, and with a faintly flickering dull red eye on the dash indicating a terminal engine managenent systems failure.

weeping

Meanwhile, it's still doing much less harm to the environment than the manufacture of a brand new EV.

I have had this exact same engine management light thing on my back-up shed for years and similarly thought I would just live with it until either the vehicle or its equally decrepit owner spluttered to a stop.
However, this year unlike previously they just could not put it out for the MOT, so I bit the bullet and said have another go at sorting it out once and for all, whatever it takes (reckless fool).
Fortunately, it proved to be just a faulty sensor, replaced for a reasonable £150-ish, no damage done and running as sweetly as ever.
It will probably now see me out, although I quite miss that friendly orange glow on the dash.

Worth getting a cheap tester to do it yourself, or take the bulb out?

The mechanic yesterday said he thinks it's a rogue sender which is also causing a weird bit of uneven running. I can be driving along steadily and the power will drop off. Press the accelerator and the power comes back. He thinks a rogue sender, that is not specifically identified in the codes, is sending random signals to the engine management which reacts to the signal. It may also be the cause of the engine light being illuminated.

He does like a project. He took on my thoroughly worn out A4 Avant quattro Tdi and has nursed it to 245,000 miles so far. He has proposed we swap cars and he'll work through the problems on my car if I promise not to trash his.

Mechanical Sympathy is my middle name. Are my middle names. In addition to my actual middle name. among my middle names are... I'll come in again.
