This too shall pass.
I've heard that before, from a film, the bard, bible ?During the Alex Murdaugh double murder trial recently he quoted the Sir Walter Scott line
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!" ,
which impressed me, but it bamboozled the trial proscecutor, who asked him to repeat it.

It is most often used simply as a reference to impermanence. Nothing stays the same forever.

I heard Shearer say on MOTD a few weeks ago that I’ve always lived by;
To be early, is to be on time.
To be on time, is to be late.
To be late, is to be unacceptable.
I loathe being late To be early, is to be on time.

It’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission ..
I'm just asking, not criticising or arguing:- do people really believe this to be true because I just don't get it.If you're constantly asking permission, your boss is being a micromanager. Do stuff until he/she gets pissed off, then explain yourself, not before.
(I don't go out of my way to piss them off, obviously).
I did stuff that might have made their heads explode (pretty normal stuff btw) but most of it yielded results and they were none the wiser.
This from a situation where the boss is unapproachable.

It doesn't mean anything like that. It means screw anyone else, I'm going to do what I want. Planning permission? Not interested. Dump my car outside your house? Couldn't give a s
t. Chop 100 trees down? Who is going to put them back up?
It a maxim for entitled scum.
I think it's supposed to mean that you should be encouraged to use your initiative in the workplace and crack on with things rather than asking every step of the way. You need to be at a decent skill/experience level to be able to do this well, of course.
It a maxim for entitled scum.
