As the 2023 Celebrity RIP thread draws to a close, it’s time to prepare for 2024 with a more appropriate thread title!

Celebrities are of course still welcome, but anyone else newsworthy can be posted without fear of ‘but they’re not a celebrity!’.

It's impossible to know everyone. But the fact that you or I don't know (or care) who someone is does not mean that person's death is not worthy of note on this thread.

Thank you for choosing an appropriate title, without the ‘C’ word. smile

Well, the 1st notable death is the thread title....

'2024 Noteworthy Deaths Thread' would be better.

I would like to be the first to say I've never heard of them.

A keen thread starter opened a thread on this on the 19th .
So RIP to one of the threads .

I vote for this one. It should kick off tomorrow. Sounds good to me as long as I don't end up on it - not that I'm notable of course.

You're very notable here Eric! But I agree, that we don't want to lose you so hang on in there!

Not a good start, I notice the OP can't be bothered to use capitals in the thread title.

From tonight's Hootenanny, I claim Sir Rod Stewart.

As we’re no longer playing the ‘death watch’ game, I see no need for a ‘2024’ time restriction, but Mods feel free to amend if desired.

I thought we'd agreed that these threads would in future not have any forecasts, or 'wish lists',
but would just be a record of those who had passed away during the year.

We always get this at the beginning of the yewar. It seems to appeal to some peoples' morbid sense of humour.

After a few weeks the "predictions" fade away and the thread becomes a proper record. It's always been this way.

It wouldn't be PH if everyone kept on topic, would it?

Nothing to add - just joining because this is often the first place I hear about the deaths of vaguely interesting people (plus many others) ...
