Social media is full of people scoffing at the warnings and giving it the old lines about its winter and what do people expect.
I hope they are right, but I fear some are going to be caught out
I was watching Motorway Cops last night, they stated that in a survey 20% of drivers would happily ignore a red weather warning. I hope they are right, but I fear some are going to be caught out

We are under a red warning, but there seems to be a distinct lack of concern here on the Isle of Man.
I have well and truly secured or removed anything that might move and done the same at my parents.

I think they may change their tune in the morning! 9am is showing on forecasts to be 50-60 mph sustained wind with gusts over 90 mph. Park your cars well away from tiled roofs, fences, trees etc ha !I have well and truly secured or removed anything that might move and done the same at my parents.

‘Mini’ tornadoes reported in Bodmin and Newquay by Kernow Weather Team. Here in far West Devon we’ve had some heavy, thundery squalls come through in the past couple of hours ahead of Eowyn.
Spoke to my parents up on the West coast of Cumbria this morning - thankfully they are aware and prepared for a day indoors, possibly without power.

Just turned unexpectedly s
Naively I thought that weather enthusiasts would be all over the incoming storm as it looks like its going to set weather records for Ireland and possibly parts of Scotland, but over at Netweather they're still pouring over charts purporting to show the weather in 7-10 days time hoping for cold weather and snow.
I just don't get it.

They have dedicated bad weather threads for storms like tomorrow, leave the model discussions and head over there. I just don't get it.

Our GP surgery sent a text out at lunch time: They will be closed tomorrow because: Red Weather Warning.
Now. This is all fine and well.
I checked the MET Office website and I checked out Friday and looked for the various warnings and where they cover. Well, it seems I must have been paying council tax to the wrong council all these years as apparently, we now reside in Scotland.
Yes, we live some 300 miles drive from the "Red Zone". But that is enough to close a useful local service (vital probably to many in the village). I hope for their sake that it is quite bad tomorrow otherwise they're going to look a bit silly. It does seem a rather egregious response to my mind. I think someone possibly got a bit overexcited at the thought of banishing the public from their sight for a day.
I suspect for us, tomorrow, we'll all go to work as normal. I'll do my 70 mi round trip in a bit of wind and rain and that will be that. But the local GP and their combative receptionists will have the equivalent of a "snow day" for a weather event that is happening entirely somewhere else. More concerned about my wife who will be making a trip down from at least the "orange" parts tomorrow.
It got me thinking and I think ever since I started working where I currently work, the weather has never been so bad that I couldn't make it to work and back without much drama beyond slowing down a little bit. I think once, it took me 90 minutes instead of 50 once because of snow. We live about as far from the sea as its possible to be in this country so any weather has usually lost its pizzazz by the time it reaches us. Never even used winter tyres, we just don't need them in this part of the world (highlands is probably a different story mind you),

It will be interesting to watch. I watched the last big hurricane in the states (FL) with trepidation and whilst it was bad, it wasn't nearly as catastrophic as the analysts and media thought. That system quickly seemed to lose its energy as it got to land. I think it dropped down to a category 1 or 2 very quickly, from cat 5 as it approached. I remember they were calling for a new category it was so fierce! (forgetting that Cat 5 already covered "cataclysmic" damage).
I look forward to the forecast revisions as this gets closer. Hopefully it dissipates a bit quickly as it makes lands.
