Met Office forecasting 30mph / gusting 70mph here near Tiverton in the morning, up at Lynton on the coast forecast for 67mph gusting 82mph and out on Lundy Island they can apparently look forward to 70mph gusting 85 mph. Not ideal for a day-trip to Lundy then.
Is that on the helicopter?

Nip outside for a pee and end up in Woolacombe...
TBH I hadn't considered the logistics of getting there! Just the "Clarkson in an Atom" look as you face the Bristol channel over the wall. biggrin

Likewise, near Tiverton. Wondered what the hell the noise was. Certainly got my attention. Not exactly designed to install a sense of inner calm and wellbeing though. You'd kind of hope when the message is "Ballistic Missile Inbound" the sound is a nice soothing tone, possibly with a big friendly "Don't Panic" message and advice to sit back, relax, have a (swift) drink because there's naff all else you can do.

Updated: Just had the same alert again...

The helicopter flies Fridays and Mondays - whether they were taking any outbound passengers today I don't know..

The Met office warned that calm literally comes before the true storm. . The really strong winds ramp up rapidly from then.

Keep safe.

Just had a power surge in the area wind really picking up atm south wales valleys. Did see something idiotic post from llandow race track saying the planned super car experience day is still going ahead as planned. If people dont know llandow is right on the coast mental. Hope its not as bad as predicted.

Well we are still here smile

It started in earnest about 10pm last night and ramped up very quickly. I think last night when I posted we must have been in the eye of it

It was pretty wild for about 4-5 hours with very high steady wind speeds and some gusts that were pretty insane, local forecasts were saying upto 100 mph .. I can well believe it

I got up for the loo about 3am and stuck my arm out the bathroom window and it was as if you'd stuck it out of a car doing 80mph down the motorway

Surprisingly we still have power ( for now ) although we have lost the broadband, I believe there are large power outages all over

It's still pretty breezy this morning and raining but I think the worst has passed here

Big Jet TV tends to be an entertaining watch during a storm. There’s been a fair few bails since they went live…

Isle of Wight update.

We're right at the bottom of the island, we pick up French radio and can see France on a clear night.

Its a bit wild here at the moment.

Surprising number of trees down in the south central (general Gatwick) area.

I was able to drive under a half fallen silver birch and around a few others on a 15 mile journey this morning but if the wind keeps going I can see more than a few road closures.

We're on the south side of a ridge so protected from the worst of it, but the bloke who's meant to be pointing our roof this weekend has cried off for some reason. biggrin

Wow must be on very rare occasions surely, I’m on Guernesey which is about 32 miles from France at its closest point, anyway getting a right battering here

Call it 100km from Ventnor to Gatteville-le-Phare, so you'd need to be ~100m above sea level for the visible horizon to be at that distance. The high ground behind Ventnor goes up over 200m, so in theory on a clear night you should be able to see the French lights from the Ventnor Downs or some of the other high ground in that area.
