Something with a high vitamin C content.

The RDA of 60mg is the minimum required to prevent scurvy, however you need more than that.

Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant and lowers blood pressure. 500mg daily is what you should be having.

Get a juicer and juice oranges and kiwi fruits.
If I just ate loads of these fruits would that too lower blood pressure?
No.

Vitamin C doesn't lower blood pressure
That is not what the other fella said though.

On another note, can you drink too much water over the course of a day? I'm not talking drinking gallons at a trot, but maybe 1/2 pint every hour sort of thing. Reason I ask is I brought a bottle to work this morning and have nearly got through 2 litres in two hours.

You can in theory, but it's drinking too much very fast that tends to create problems.

My normal is 3-3.5 litres a day, which is higher than the recommendation for adults of about 2L over a day - BUT that's assuming someone who's not losing loads of fluids through sweating lots, which most people will do in this weather.

If you're drinking lots of water because you're losing a lot through sweat, make sure you also replace the salts you're losing too or you'll find yourself feeling very unwell a bit later.

But isn't losing some salts via sweat actually healthy (But not to excess)?

I remember a conversation with a work colleague a good few years ago. He was a keen rugby player and said that exercise and sweating was good because it expelled salts when you sweated and he just put back plain water.

The salts are needed for electrochemical gradients that the body uses to power cells and start nerve signals off etc. So they do need to be at a reasonable level so replacing them after strenuous excercise and sweating is a good thing.
