My missus has been on it for around 6 months now. Pays for it herself, around £200 pm I think.

She has lost weight consistently and fairly slowly over that period, initial issues with "toilet" but that "passed" lol.

Her experience is it seems to work by convincing you that you don't want to eat ALL of whatever you have on your plate - she still has the old cravings, we still get occasional takeaways, chocolate etc, but she eats wayyyyy less of it than before. She currently wastes a lot of food as she wants it, but then doesn't want it.

Hope that helps.

Very effective in weight loss and also in reducing CV issues in those with pre existing risk factors.

However, recent studies show that after stopping treatment, weight gain returns at a faster rate AND magnitude than if the weight was lost with exercise alone.

My interpretation, it’s the perfect drug for drug companies. It works but you have to keep taking it and when you don’t, it reminds you why you started in the first place. But exercise and portion control is more effective long term.

I linked to a very good (and honest) podcast about it here. Worth a watch:

I'm tempted to give it a go. I'm not obese but certainly overweight and have trouble moderating my food intake. A helping hand alongside my exercise routine and an attempt to eat clean might be just the ticket.
What would your plan for this be in the long term?

Just eat less and exercise more. You can always push yourself harder and cut the flab.

This stuff could be a total civilisation and world economic game changer if it works and becomes very affordable.

Less food consumed = less production, processing and transportation needed.
Imagine a 25% reduction in the UK populations total calorie intake and a subsequent 25% reduction in all the industries that facilitate that.

Massive health and NHS impact.
Imagine a 25% decrease in mortality from obesity related issues!!
We might be able to get a Dr's appointment and reduced waiting lists.

Massive impact on pensions and economy of people living healthier longer lives.......
Loads of other stuff as well along with massive profits for the drug companies until it comes off patent.

It perfectly obvious that attitude just doesn't work for most people - Wegovy & the like really are a game changer.

Yep, it's not magic. 24 hour fasts 3 days a week will see results. Yes, you can do this for the rest of your life whenever you've had a big night out.

Don't even need to exercise if you can't be bothered.

Eating less, doesn't mean eating better though.

Yes, if one goes from obese to normal, the health benefits are significant. That should not be underestimated when it comes to T2DM, CV disease etc.

However, it should also be noted that prolonged caloric restriction in the absence of appropriate weight training/resistance exercise results in a disproportionate loss of muscle mass.

For the lazy and the weak-willed, in the short term. Maybe ask yourself why better men with stronger wills are in better shape than you before you srart taking these dodgy drugs - just a thought.

Google 'Ozempic face'.

Same / similar substance.

A couple I know in the village have been taking this stuff - though both deny - and have each gone from 'lockdown barrage balloon' to 'burst balloon'.

Supposedly popular with 'slebs who need to go from Size 2 to Size 0, I've seen the effects on properly fat people, and it's horrible.

Given how much fatties cost the NHS putting them on this longterm as they do those with hypertension may make economic sense. It would be nice if there was a means of magically getting people to eat better/less and exercising more but until that arrives big pharma can make some cash out of it.

In a previous life, as a market research consultant, I did quite extensive pre-launch studies on a similar GLP-1 molecule (dulaglutide).

Weight loss turned out to be a positive and somewhat unexpected side-effect of this adjunctive treatment for type 2 diabetes.

The weight loss benefit comes from the molecules impact on slowing of gastric emptying, leading to a prolonged feeling of 'fullness' after eating, which the drug manufacturers (all of 'em) proclaimed as an appetite suppressant, which strictly speaking, it isn't.

Its side effect profile is quite benign, though the weight-loss benefit is inconsistent (i.e. works for some and not others).

The downside of these treatments was cost and the fact that it is injectable - many, many T2D patients being steadfastly needle-averse.

Rather like Viagra, which was originally developed to counter pulmonary hypertension, the GLP-1 phenomenon of weight-loss has far out-gunned it's primary function.

So it works then!

I'm not that fat. I've just been drinking too much beer recently and need to shift a couple of stone. I can't find a gym that i like, and it won't stop raining so I'm not out running and cycling as much as I'd like.

My cunning plan was to replace the beer and pizza with new-fangled drug pens, home workouts and a bit of intermittent fasting (rest in peace Dr Mosley) to try and shift the initial blubber. Then drop them later in the summer when the weather has improved.
Since you like Dr Mosley's work, check out his programme on fasting (not IF but 1 day and up to 3 day fasts). It's compelling watching and as a result I fast weekly. It's easy when you're in a mindset that you're getting st done by not stuffing your face (until breakfast, which is about 9pm for me). smile

Hunger is just a reminder that I'm rocking it.

What I realised is that I could skip exercise and still burn fat by fasting.

If you're lazy like me, it's the easiest way of staying in good shape.

Then the only thing you need to do is pick up heavy metal objects to develop a decent physique.

Forget cycling, rowing, tennis, football, body combat or salsa. Just stop eating. Watch TV, read a book, play a game, masturbate. Just don't eat. And if you don't eat, you don't have to bust your arse burning calories.

Then I'd recommend getting your arse in gear and focusing on legit sustainable lifestyle changes you can maintain in the long term.

Big tick for weight training, however instead of thinking cardio is there just for fat burning, I'd definitely incorporate that into a healthy lifestyle as it's important for cardiovascular health.

Yes, that's obvious but not really what the OPer was asking. At least the OPer is being honest - most people say "I want to get fit" when they really mean "I want to stop being fat" and couldn't really care about VO2 max. biggrin
