0.7kg in what has been probably my best week of eating. A reminder this only gets harder after my seasonal excess seems to drop off quickly.

End of the month and a good first one for me. On the 3rd Jan my resting heart rate was 70, today it's 63. I'm 6'3", fifties. Just a measurable thing to show there is improvement beyond what you can weigh/see (it was 61 at the end of October mind you!). It also shows the strain a 'little' excess can do to our bodies.

Let's see some first updates for the new year if you haven't already done so. Or if you've not been good so far, today could be that day.

ETA:

From last week hehe Back in 2019 on this thread (yeah, I know!) I had a SW book with stickers and certificates of progress and awards - including 'Man of the year' (from a choice of 2). I don't stay for the group chats these days and don't get stickers or anything as I think they're used to me coming back and losing the same weight over and over. Would have been a '1 stone' sticker/certificate today (started back at SW a week later than started myself) #flawed

I don't claim to understand all this. For the last three weeks my weight goes up slightly between Wednesday and Thursday, before having a final dip which represents a big chunk of the week's 'progress'. 1.3kg for the week, 0.7kg lighter than this time yesterday.

My insides haven't been quite right and think I'm coming down with a cold so either/both of those could have messed the numbers as it doesn't feel like a 1kg+ week.

But 63k on the rowing machine - and seeing some improving numbers/times etc. A fraction lower than last week, but on target for 10k metres 6 times a week (and still probably a bonkers amount). Similar steps.

And I'm still 3.2kg heavier than the end of October so it goes both ways very quickly.

I know my existence is fragile, I'm on these threads over and over but, genuinely, if I can lose weight anybody can.

I'm going to try something different. I'm exactly 10kg from where I want to be. I lose this weight over and over in short amount of time (about the same as it takes to put it on).

So I've wiped my wiki and TODAY is my start weight. Let's see if it keeps me from falling off the wagon as usual.

Eating my own words here - and anything else I can get my greedy mitts on.

Great start to the year (been here before) and the wheels have come off somewhat (also been here). Friday I very quickly came down with a heavy cold, felt terrible and went to bed at 7:30pm (after a usual Friday bad treat day of eating). Saturday diet was fine, but felt rundown. Sunday and Monday have been a mess. I still feel pretty rotten - daughter has her mock GCSEs and seems all the kids have something. Sunday it felt a bit like I was listening to my body and giving it calories/energy to fight the bug, yesterday it feels like my brain tricked me into thinking similar and I just stuffed my face.

Writing this down in the hope it gives me an extra layer of brain power to fight the devil in me!

I think I was definitely poorly. 3 days written off, thick with cold but today a spring in my step and just beat the rowing time (of same exercise 3 weeks ago - still miles off my best). Felt pretty miserable and disappointed with myself that I let my diet slip, but the positivity returns once you draw a line under it.

Resting heart rate settling back down, feeling a lot more motivated. Will see how badly the scales punish me tomorrow morning. Mrs 22 has hospital appts the next few Fridays so no proper slimming world weigh-bridge.

Can I ask what the hell I’ve done wrong with the wiki to be the odd one out?!
Was an earlier edit borked it, should be sorted now.

I'm only 0.2kg heavier than last Friday and I'm absolutely delighted. A couple of absolute shocking days of eating, but I guess if you gorge thousands of calories as a one-off, your body can't keep all the energy, much will 'pass through'. In my head that's better than a few hundred extra calories over and over again.

I was surprised this morning, I was dreading it but dragged myself on. Still want my last/next 10kg to be my challenge, so it's 10.2kg now!

Thoughts on a new Wiki coloumn? Weight to target or percentage of weight loss goal? It's an extra thing that can go wrong so will keep me checking the thread hehe

Might have to investigate the weighted vests - never heard of them before! Seeing as I was nearly 10kg heavier after Christmas, my body must be able to trudge around with that much.

Looking at Amazon (I'm lazy like that) a lot of the reviews mention size/fitting and I'm 6'3", broad shoulders (naturally, not through hard-work) and carry a spare person around my middle! Any recommendations of one for chubby folk?

Chill romft123. Everyone here wants you to lose weight, you've admitted you're overweight so that's a start.

It doesn't how you lose weight, other PHers will support you. You just need to find your way.

I think 22 needs to realise that you don't need to 'lick a carrot' you just need to start getting yourself out of your comfort zone just a little until it becomes a habit. I may be speaking out of turn but strikes me that the knee problems are not the reason he's not exercising but it's probably the opposite.
Healthy food can also be tasty and something you look forward to. I bloody love a chicken wrap instead of friend chicken and chips now.
Not me, I just responded to the poster. I'm all for getting active 520k+ steps and 420k+ rowed metres for 2025 thus far.

I'm Slimming World style with a weekly meltdown. Low/no fat but lots of pasta, rice & spuds. Works for me feeling full, lots of exercise (just the way I commit/am wired), I don't drink or have a sweet tooth. I actually find it quite easy to lose a lot of weight - trouble is I say it every year and it bounces back just as quick. For now, the yo-yo is where my head is at, but I'm trying to change.

Happy to share my dinner menu for a week - proper portions. Agree that a 'craving' after exercise cannot be satisfied with carbs - chicken breast/eggs for the win - and that's something the thread has helped me with.

I'm 9.5kg for the year, but trying something different on the Wiki with my 10kg-to-target being my 'start' weight - 9.6kg to go as at this morning (wiki update Friday)!

Thanks for sharing MediumDan. Some of us at similar weights convince ourselves we're built the same!

As for some of the earlier posts....

If you told me I could only eat two things for the rest of my days, it would be nice bread and cheese. I love it.

Slimming World for me means no bread or cheese - I'm not wired for moderation so avoid altogether!

But I eat tonnes of pasta, spuds and rice etc. I've said repeatedly I don't know the science behind it, but I can have a mahoosive bowl of pasta with a dollop of (5%) mince and (healthy homemade) ragu/sauce. Tonight we've got a chicken curry thing - just a jar and I'll have a mountain of rice. I can make half-decent roasties with that 'fry-lite' spray - and I eat stacks. Slimming world has made bazillions from this approach (strict no/low fat) so it's not just me!

We're mostly all making progress with a whole range of different approaches, so let's keep this a supportive thread.

Finally sub 100kg! First time since 2013. Am over the moon. Down from 107.2kg early Jan 2025, and a high of 118kg in May 2023.
Awesome stuff, that is a fab milestone.

After a small man-flu related increase last week (& treat day Friday) I've easily had my best week when it comes to diet and a decent week of steps and rowing machine. 1.6kg for the week, or 1.4kg over 2 weeks.

I'm focusing on the 10kg-to-target on the wiki as I need to stop thinking the 'easy' bit is some kind of achievement. I've lost it over and over. I've not been under 100kg since 2019 (I don't think, so determined to get there) and I'm still a couple of kilos heavier than the end of October to demonstrate quite how destructive my binges can be.

Interesting links on the bioelectrical Impedance scales. I don't expect them to be totally accurate, but for the same person weighing at the same time over and over, the trend in the data is useful. Combined with tracked resting heart rate, cardio health/fitness and how well my clothes fit, they all paint a bigger picture of a (very gradually) smaller me.

Congrats to everyone doing well.

Properly off the rails since last Friday. Been off my rowing machine due to a back injury (unrelated) and then a stressful time with some other stuff. Excuses really, but hoping to draw a line under it tomorrow. I go from totally focused to complete meltdown in the blink of an eye.

After a period of absolute meltdown, I'm dusting myself down and appearing again. Difficult at home with Mrs 22 having some potentially catastrophic health stuff going on, we've both been eating like pigs with the "what's the point" mentality. I suppose the point is we have two kids and if it's just me or two of us, I need to be the healthiest dad I can be. No idea if it'll stick, but gotta try again.

For all its faults, PH can be awesome in little corners that can make a difference.

I've kept a few wise words in my head, including some from this thread and it doesn't take long to look at yourself in a more positive light. I have 6.6kg for the year to show, even if I'm +2.5kg in the last month. I know when you make a change the body stores water differently, so I already have 1kg to show for a tweaked mindset in just a couple of days. We even had takeaway pizza last night as it was my daughter's parents' evening, but I didn't go mad, had been sensible through the day and didn't have further treats after (and no treat day Friday this week).

I'm not able to use my rowing machine at the moment (feels like a chest muscle, but could just be stress) which was always my trusty steed in times of my head being in the right place, so I'll have to double down on what gets stuffed in my gob.

Some great results folks, nice one.

I'm pleased to say the 'damage' from an epic meltdown seems to be getting quickly undone. Yesterday I struggled a bit as nothing quite hit the spot (but didn't cave in). I'm going to set up my rowing machine today in the office and try a gentle 10k. I know it's what I eat more than what I do, but for me they go hand-in-hand with the exercise definitely contributing to the overall 'feel good' factor and keeping my head in check.

Still struggling a bit at the moment. I've been ~5k metres short of 500k for the year on my rowing machine for about a week - when things are normal I row 6 days a week (10k each day). My rowing log did pop up with something and shortly after I received this...

5 million metres on the machine in my office (excuse the American spelling)! Maybe that'll motivate me to get straight - should have ordered 2 sizes smaller hehe

Waiting on some medical stuff for Mrs 22 (Friday 4th) and the stupid thing is...
1... If it's acceptable news and life returns to 'normal' for a few months - I'll probably get my act together
2... If it's bad news I'll get my act together to make sure I'm healthier for the kids

But right now, in limbo land, I can't think straight. I'm hitting submit then jumping straight on the rower, honest guv.
ETA: 5k in 21 and then another in 22mins. Slow (watching Netflix), but pleased I did.

I'm a chunk lighter than I was after Christmas, but I've lost and gained that same weight over and over - I have to stop treating it as some kind of achievement.

I'm approaching this with 10kg-to-target being my 'start' weight, and I'm still slightly over this but heading the right way. My wife has some health stuff and it looked tricky for a while, but seems to have settled thankfully and a break from scans for a few months and a summer holiday!

Absolutely determined to lose 10kg for the summer.
