Yep, i've had this for several years now. It happens every time i chew, every time i open my mouth more then half an inch and if my jaw moves side to side. People also occaisionally hear it when i eat.
Sometimes i forget about it or don't notice it for a while, other times it annoys me to the point of wanting to rip my own face off. If i'm in "noticing it" mode, the repeated action of it can sometimes make me feel a bit strange.
I've been told there's nothing that can be done about it, although i might look into this:
My jaw is exactly like this too. Only I don't want anyone coming near me with a syringe. I'll keep cracking thanks Sometimes i forget about it or don't notice it for a while, other times it annoys me to the point of wanting to rip my own face off. the only way to stop it is to wash out the jaw joint using a very big syringe. I decided I could live with the inconvenience!
Around 1/3 of the population has a clicky jaw. It is caused by the condylar disc (a bit of cartilage inbetween the top and bottom jaw)becoming slightly out of place.
The jaws act like a ball and socket joint with the disc in the middle, occasionally the disc doesn't keep up with the movements of the jaws and a click happens when the disc "catches up" with the jaw movement.
There is no magic wand that will cure it however a soft diet, Ibuprofen and a few excercises can help. Curl your tongue up into the soft palate, and open and close-this should stop the clicking (you will notice the bite is a little further back than normal)Don't waggle your bottom jaw around and keep off the toffees and crusty bread and it should sort itself out.
