He said when we were relegated he would have signed any new contract just to keep playing and they wouldn’t offer it. The board wanted him out.
Ah yes, I seem to remember there were some odd decisions at that time. RichB said:

Ah yes, I seem to remember there were some odd decisions at that time. Bit of a lockdown quiz for you Hammers fans .... clearing out a back bedroom here prior to some redecoration and in a box was a couple of WHU programmes ... FA Cup fourth round from 1975 and the final five years later.
Likewise this one ... perhaps one of the best days in the club's history.
Anyone want to have a guess at your starting 11s as printed in these matchday programmes?

I’ll have a stab at the ’75 Cup Final team (without cheating)…Ferguson
Bonds
Lampard
Pike
Brush
Pearson
Brooking
Paddon
Taylor
Holland
… I’m stuck on 10!

The two cup final ones are fairly easy as most Hammers fans of a certain age will remember them well.
I'm going to have a go at the Swindon game without resorting to Google.
Ferguson
Taylor T
Bonds
Lampard
Holland
Paddon
Brooking
Jennings
Robson B
Taylor A.
Think that maybe most of the 75 team come to think of it.
Edit, maybe Kieth Robson or Kieth Coleman played as well.

West Ham XI v Swindon ...
West Ham '75 final v Fulham - Bobby Gould was listed as sub
West Ham '80 final v Arsenal ...
I'm sure you all got the final ones ... quite a few line-up changes between the 4th round and the final in '75. Did Clyde get injured? And John McDowell wore the no.9 shirt v Swindon? Presumably he still played full-back and didn't lead the front line?!

Last few posts made me realise that I've never watched either the '75 or '80 Cup Finals - appears that both are on YouTube so I'll correct that over the next couple of weeks.
I watched the 75 final on German tv at an RAF station. I was disappointed that at the end they didn’t show the presentation, I felt a bit deflated.I was there at the 1980 final. Apparently it wasn’t a great match but I was thrilled on the day. I remember driving away from Wembley drinking from can of beer which was pretty stupid but would have been my first of the day.

I never got to go to the old Wembley; been to the current one quite a bit though.

Born in 75, don't actually remember being 5 years old so I missed out
You really did miss out. It may never happen again in any of our lifetimes.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
