First cup final for me since United in 2018.
Dawned on me that it's pretty entitled behaviour to not bother to go to FA Cup finals after how much it meant to me and us back in the 90's. 94 ended badly but god I was excited to finally get to one - first of my adult life and 97 remains one of my most cherished days ever.
And after missing 3 of the last 4 (All of which we lost) I am there on saturday. Lucky charm returns - no point in Liverpool coming now

and that Leeds go back to the Championship.
Booing Kovacic as he limped off after that ludicrous tackle was not the mark of the classiest fanshttps://twitter.com/CarefreelewisG2/status/1524546...
I’ll be watching the final from a bar over here in Gran Canaria from behind a pint with one eye closed. If it starts badly I’ll be off back to the pool, I’m sure there’ll be lots of confident scousers around to wreck my holiday, unfortunately not too confident for a good day, god I hope I’m wrong 🙄
So Cup Final day it is. Oh for those innocent days of bygone years when it was the only live game on a year, other than England/Scotland in the Home Internationals.
We would start watching the TV build up at 9am, there would be Cup Final It's a Knock out, numerous bits of tat, we'd be there as the teams left their hotels, ride on the coaches with them to the stadium, watch as they'd take to the pitch in cheap shiny suits soaking up the atmosphere, then it would be "abide with me", before we'd cheer on the plucky underdog.
In '94 it was amazing, Chelsea in a cup final.....wow just wow.. first i was old enough to remember....only the 4th time in 80 years. We'd done the double over Utd, it was our time. The disappointment of that 2nd half was crushing.
Today... 5th final in 6 years. It's just not the same. Victory will still be sweet, but defeat won't be the end of the world it felt in 94.

Thanks for bringing those days back up, had completely forgotten that the whole day was televised!

Todays game, I think if Lukaku is hungry, which he seems to have been lately, then I can see him bullying Van Dyk & getting a couple.
He’s the key to us winning. I can see it happening as well.
Something I have learned as I get older is you can never replicate that childhood sense of wonder when it comes to things like a cup final. I remember the 94 one well, the excitement of the buildup, watching my Dad's VHS of the 70's final whilst he told us what it felt like to be there and see us lift it, and whilst he was the only one who had a ticket the rest of my family had a big get together to watch it. Then we duly get smashed. I've never watched the game since and whilst I seem to recall a dodgy penalty, they were likely just a much better team. Obviously, since I was living in Kent my class was full of United and Liverpool fans, who were all waiting at the school gates on Monday morning to laugh at me.
But that said, the rise of European football means it has definitely declined in importance and almost always won by the same few teams anyway, as shown by the fact it's not the last game of the season. If there's a good chance of winning something else or being there next year, a final defeat doesn't hurt as much as if it were a once in a generation opportunity.
