Penalties are always the cruelest way to lose, especially to the same team in two finals. But we went toe to toe throughout and everyone put a shift in, so can't have that many complaints.

But we create nothing, are so pedestrian, could take corners till the cows come home & not score.

Mind you thought we pretty much shut Lpool down, they didn't create much

Just a shame our best striker's playing for Roma

Don't agree with creating nothing, we had a fair few proper chances at least one of which would be in the back of the net on a different day (same for LFC tbf). Always sickening to lose on pens, surprised Dave took one of the first 5 but he was what, 4 inches away from it being a perfect pen? Interesting to see Jorghi drop his usual style. C'est la vie. We played well once we weathered the first 20, Alonso was a surprise contender for Chelsea MoM for me, always available & mostly did good stuff with the ball, but pretty much everyone showed up and performed well. Would liked to have seen Werner get a few mins using his pace late on to get at their high line. Diaz was their biggest threat for me all match.

Bloody good goal in the womens FA cup final.

And apparently they sold 55,000 tickets which will have a few people inexplicably fuming…

Our 4th pen shootout v Liverpool, and our 4th loss. People drone on about pens being a lottery but of course that's utter bks; it's the exact opposite of a lottery. It's 100% a test of nerve and skill.

To lose 4 out of 4 against the same club tells me they're doing something we aren't in the preparation for penalties. Klopp apparently employed a neuroscientist to help the players deal with a penalty shootout. Whatever it is we do to practice and prepare for pens, we need to do more, or do something different

I can't disagree with your point at all.

Its seen through times that some teams can just naiil shootouts one after another.

You can see it in the pause and then run up before it's taken. The saved/missed ones look nervous, do that silly stutter run, look like they're trying to work out which way the GK is going, whereas the good ones just pick a corner and batter it.

Bizarre comments, we hit the woodwork twice and Diaz could have had a hat trick. And Pulisic had a couple of good chances and Alonso hit the post

Game could have been 4-4 but for good keeping.

Yeah although its disappointing, I'm not devastated losing on pens to Liverpool. They are above us in the league, and in form, so in a game of small margins, you would expect them to find a few percent more winning probably than us. Pens are kind of the ultimate expression of that!

If we had been spanked 3-0 I would have been annoyed, as they aren't that much better than us. Likewise, if the league table situations were reversed but the outcome was not, we could feel cheesed off.

All you can ask for in cups is to get to the final and have your team show up. I would say our team showed up both games, but in a tricky season and on a run of pretty poor form, we didnt have enough to beat the odds.

You certainly turned up and gave us a right game in both, thought you were better in the league cup and we head the edge in FA

Tough to lose both on pens, at least your future seems more certain

At least the women came thru. Did brilliantly to win the final 3-2. Ahead twice and pegged back twice, the second time on 88 mins, they showed real depth of character to go on and win it in extra time.

Yes, but for all we’ve done since, we could have won the FA cup and still have finished 4th. That would have been better.

Bizarre mental gymnastics there to convince yourself you've achieved everything you could.

I'd rather have finished 5th and won a cup. We aren't likely to win the CL, so a trophy won is far better.

I think that this year we needed CL football next year more than in recent years. There will be a lot of replacements needed in the summer, the money hopefully is there, but without the CL there would be a question mark over the ability to recruit the needed talent..

Yes, fair point. But I was at both cup finals this season, and I'm bloody furious at losing both.

Been a poor year for us after starting well. I've sat and watched far too many games where we have just been absolutely awful and others where its just a different team e.g Madrid.

Not clinical enough as well when we needed and had chances.

It is a big ask to expect lots out of our developed youth, the class is there it just needs some consistency.

We will need;

-2 defenders, Silva is just not going to keep up next year, Rudiger off and the other Herbert obviously off.
-We need winger options so we don't get fubared like when losing RJ.
-Conor Gallagher will be coming into the squad and I hope Broja to give us some new faces, CG I can't wait to see in the Double six.
