Letexier the 35-year-old Frenchman will become the youngest referee of a EURO final when Spain take on England in Berlin on Sunday.

As a Scot, it really is the event I hoped would never happen.

However, I have to say i equally want them to win and not to win.

The want to win is that whatever anyone says, we are GB and I watch these guys week in and week out, and definitely would prefer them over the Spanish.

The not part is based on the completely intolerable individuals such as the BBC pundit team.

Game 1, Kane was a legend, by half time game 2, Lineker and Shearer etc effectively want him retired as he is too slow etc etc, then as games developed Southgate has to go etc, and this continued for games until now where they are all magnificent again.

I can only imagine how quickly they shall turn on them again if they lose.

Never mind the smug comments of Scotlands performance. boxedin

As players, I actually didn't like Keane, Neville or Wright, but what they offer a great balanced pundit team, and have always been 100% behind the team and Southgate only offering reasonable options to improve, and likewise they still had the full respect for Scotlands dire efforts.

That is what I admire, and makes it more palatable.

For England to finally make the pieces all work and finally turn up was great to watch.

It would be daft to not hold onto Southgate regardless of the result.

It really doesn’t make much difference which foreign nation the ref is from to be fair. Eurovision proves our all-round popularity.

You now have world class players in every department,
Give over. There are probably three world class players in the squad (Kane, Bellingham, Foden). They would get a place in any squad. That's a forward and two attacking midfielders. Who is the world class defensive midfielder, defender and goalkeeper who would walk in to any squad?
This

There’s a perception that we have a team of Messis, which is a fallacy

Pickford?
Trippier?
Guehi?

Good players, but not world class by any stretch,

The reality is that we have a team of good players with 2 or 3 world class ones, one being Bellingham.

I don't think Pickford is a world class keeper by any stretch of the imagination, but he's right up there when he puts an England shirt on. For years we used to ask why players couldn't perform for England like they did for their clubs. Pickford is the exact opposite.

I don't know how many caps he has now, probably about 50 -60, and I can count the errors on the fingers of one foot. And he's saved pens in every shootout he's faced for England. I wouldn't take any other keeper over him for England.

One thing 'is' for certain, the Spanish are sure to provide us with a world class display of acting. They'll rolling around on the floor clutching their shins from the merest glance of a passing England player's sock fibre.

I just hope the ref isn't easily duped.
And we'll have numerous players who will almost certainly do the same. Modern football for you.

He performs well for both. If you look at Everton the season just finished only City, Arsenal and Liverpool conceded fewer goals in the PL despite them finishing 15th. It was at the other end of the pitch where they struggled, only Sheff Utd scored fewer.

Gone are the days when you could blame the Spanish for acting. It’s seen week in, week out in the prem.

Most footballers have become experts in it.

See: Kane's penalty against Netherlands, or Bellingham whenever he gets tackled or makes a mistake in a challenge. I hate it but it has truly become a tactic for players
