Fatigue showed there. Rice looked leggy when losing it up field and they broke and we had plenty back but the ball dropped kindly for them and we are out.
Felt for Mipo he couldn’t get into the game had a good first 5-10 but then fell away after a few bad touches. But just shows how catastrophically short we are up front, and how hard that position is to play, you can’t just throw Yarmo up there and think it will work that’s just nonsense. We also lost Og which looked a bad one, fingers crossed it’s just bruising and not something more serious.
Positives were that Johnson looked accomplished and should be seeing more game time in a 352 let’s not think we can’t play that system just because Masuaku is out. Fab looked good after a few flaps of late. Dawson just impresses each time, tremendous.

Just read Moyes comments this morning that Antonio is not suffering fatigue and in fact it is an injury which puts him as a doubt for the Sheff Utd game. I mean it was inevitable and anyone with an ounce of common sense knew it, but FFS, what an utter joke.
So, options?
Yarmo look out long term by all accounts, but to be honest he only showed what we knew is that he isn't a striker and cant play that role, no movement and no ability to hold on to the ball
Mipo looked crestfallen last night, he needs his confidence built back up this week at the training ground - but as our only actual striker at the club might have to be him again
Lingard as the mythical false nine, would love it if it came off but I don't think our midfield have it in them to make all the forward runs we need for it to work especially if Soucek and Rice are both playing who tend to sit in front of the back four rather than provide those overlaps to be the furthest man forward, Soucek likes to come in late to attacks, not lead them
Bowen or Benrahma up front? Bowens form has plummeted, Benrahma despite his physique does retain the ball pretty well but his best plays often are those smart balls into the box cracking open defences as we saw with Lingards goal and last night almost finding Soucek
I honestly can only see one outcome ... sign Costa on a free and chuck him in

Bowen up front, played there a few times for Hull apparently & maybe try Lingard.
Yarma can't do it - that was clear last night & it appears he's probably injured now anyway.
The youngster that came on barely touched the ball & is clearly still someway off so that's not an option.

king stupid not further strengthening in the window but this was always likely to be the outcome. 2014/15 repeated.

Yes Bowen up front, Lingard Benrahma and Fornals in behind. Cant see any other option. Confused as to why Afolayan was loaned out instead of Mipo, he seems a more matured player and would have been better back up to Ant. Have to say the whole saga of the forward position has been a s
t show by West Ham, alright Moyes couldnt get his perfect player, but thats life Moysie sometimes with just £20m in your pocket you have to take what you can get.

Highlights once again the manner in which the Club's run & the old-school structure.
Until that's dragged into the modern age we won't resolve the recruitment issue regardless of who's in charge (I think the whole £20m last window talk seemed a bit past-the-event-throw-under-bus nonsense from sully & co) - there's some decent threads on this elsewhere. But, as we've mentioned previously, fair-play to Moyes for not accepting a last minute sully special to sulk on the bench.
Yeah our club is still quite backwards in a few areas, the idea we can bodge a team in the top half of the premier league sticking wingers or midfielders up front is laughable. It was ridiculous, Moyes said he had £20m but was chasing a player valued at double that and complained he couldn't get him. Moyes is doing a great job with the team thats not in doubt, but he failed miserably in January and has left the club precariously balanced between a great season and a full on plummet down the league.
On an more positive note, nice article about Soucek https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56001747

Quite a few of the teams down the bottom have shown an upturn in performance levels recently, so yes not an easy one tonight and even more difficult with our team depth exposed so badly. I really hope Moyes knew what he was doing and can deploy the alternative attacking options he believes he has on his pocket.
