Indeed, and another couple of things I picked up on was firstly Kudus, whatever dwarf he is it certainly ain`t Happy. He needs to go back to basics, pass and go instead of taking on the whole world and disappearing up his own arris.

The other was Fab. Now I`m no keeper, unless you count 2 seasons for Ashford Hockey Club in 1983/4, but surely you keep your eyes on the ball and not second guess the onrushing striker as if he does get a touch you ain`t stopping that from a yard away. Both goals, if he`d fixed his eyes on the ball it would have been a simple catch.
Yep - both soft goals to concede.

You know Wally Watson & Ian Thomas then? I played in goal for them aged about 15 (c1973) and in the spirit of PH, someone came to our house in a RR to pick me up for the game........... didn't see many of those on Stanhope them days and doubt you do even today...oh and I agree about Fab..my dog would have saved them coz his eyeds are always on the ball not the man biggrin
What Wally Watson my games teacher at Knatchbull and Ian Thomas, IIRC, was games teacher at the Towers?.

Wallys son Dave was my centre back when I was in goal for Ashford and he opened the bowling for Wye when I opened the batting for BRSA back in the day.
Wally was my games teacher too and Ian Thomas was ex head boy at Norton Knatch ( called Ashford grammar in my 1st yr there) he came back as PE teacher before he went to Towers and he was also Ashford & District schools representaive team manager with Keith Kitney from Homewood.

Wally would hit everyone with his hockey stick if you never got out of the changing rooms quick enough but luckily I was good at sport so he never hit me - except I do recall he wasn't happy that I would always get the better of his son on the pitch ...you must be same age as Neil Ruddock who went to the North?
Wally once famously removed a stump from the wicket and beat a lad around the arse with it during a house game. I was fielding at mid off when the bloke at slip chucked the ball back to the bowler, sadly his aim was awry and it head Wally, umpiring at the bowlers end, in the head.
Wally went mental and launched his stump based attack on the poor bd. I, along with all the fielders, were absolutely pissing ourselves.

Ruddock? He was a year younger than me. I was striker for Ashford Dynamo U16, he was centre midfield for our local rivals in the Canterbury League when in 1983 we faced them at the pitch, that is now a car park, at the back of the old British Rail Staff Club in Beaver Road.
We were informed by our manager that several pro clubs, including WH, had scouts at the game to watch Ruddock and if any of us fancied our chances at a pro gig today was the day to perform.
We won 2-1, I got both ours and Ruddock got theirs.
Ruddock got a call from Man City and I got picked up by my mum.

I'm not a goalkeeper either but is it not like wicket keeping, you keep your eyes on the flight of ball and if it goes straight through or the batsman gets a slight edge you catch it?

And when I played against him opposite the Ben Truman pub (me c26 him c16) his dad (Ted) wasn't happy that I hurt him in a tackle and he had to be taken off (he was playing for the Fox on a Sunday morning with his older brothers of whom Gary was one of my best mates at the time)..........City would have gone mad if they had know he played Sunday morning pub footy.......

Dynamo - You also know / know the Priors & Ted Revell then?

Wally was a sadist..........did you ever hear about what he did to the the streakers on X country.....police were called!

Yeah knew Ted, sadly no longer with us. Can`t recall the name Prior, apart from Percy who I played cricket with at Bilsington.

As for Gary Ruddock, I think he joined my Sunday pub team, The Swan at Great Chart, in about 1994 and only played once, against Shadoxhurst when he broke an ankle.

He was taken away by one of the 3 ambulances that attended during the first half of that match, 2 broken bones and a medicine / alcohol induced seizure.
The ref blew for half time at about half 12 and abandoned the game as he had to go to a christening.

Wally a sadist? Never heard about the streaker incident.

I did hear he once forced a class to swim in the outdoor pool in the middle of winter, apparently it was so cold one bloke jumped in resulting in one of his bks receding so far it required an op to retrieve it.

Well I suppose you wouldn’t get half a dozen bodies running across your line of vision and have the last possible defection a yard in front of you. Standing back to a quick you’ve got plenty of time to see the ball into your gloves even if it swings after the stumps.
Either way, they both went in!

You've played against me 100% wink in fact I played a few games for Shadoxhurst when I lived there when they dragged me out of retirement in my late 30's

IIRC Percy was the younger brother of Paul & Roger - all good footballers and lifelong Dynamo members.

Bilsington Cricket - you knew Barry Leaning & Gerald Milstead then?

Gary's a nice bloke and we drank in the Loco together on many occassions.

Quote Wally " Fatty will break the ice" as he kicks farmboy Ovenden in - I was there!

S Patrick & A Milne did a streak though Cradlebridge drive (c1973) on way back to school on last leg of X Country - Wally beat the crap out of them both in changing rooms ( I saw it all) and I know police were called....

Cox was headmaster and still recognised me in car dealership when I was about 50 ......."you were one of my naughty boys that nicked the apples from the tree in my garden" rofl

Sorry for the thread drift chaps biggrin

Very much so, Barry was a local sporting legend. Went to his funeral a year or so back and, coincidentally, my 350Z was bought from his son in law.

Never bothered with any press conferences before, but I’m really starting to like how GP talks and conducts himself in them.

One thing that was said on another WHU Facebook page amongst all the 'can't understand what he was saying' comments was that JLo had no charisma and very rarely wore the club gear except on the training ground. GP comes across very different as a first impression and the players seem to be responding very positively to the different approach.

yes

Might be a record … two games in and we haven’t had a “Potter out” yet!

3 games in 8 days might be a bit much for him still ?
Not much creativity there and a very weak bench.

It's not going to be pretty.

Also disappointed Somerville isn’t fit. We’re looking severely weakened. frown
