I know Kabak had had a lot on his plate since he signed. I just wonder if he's done enough to warrant buying?
Phillips did well again last night - even got a mention from Milly afterwards. I just wonder how good he could end up with Virgil leading the back 4 next to him.
I think having Virgil and Hendo back next season will be a big plus. And I suspect another striker will start to emerge playing a bit part perhaps next season too - our front 3 can't go on forever. Bobby and Sadio both turn 30 next season. I don't think Salah will be going anywhere this Summer either.

I was assuming we might start to vary the "everyone get high up the pitch" thing. When RM did sit back and try to catch us on the break later in the game, we still coped. And it was Kabak that got taken off for that, not Phillips. I just wonder if Kabak has a future at Anfield.
Lovren was 4th choice eventually - Phillips seems to handle things better than Lovren did. He was even throwing in a couple of no look passes that came off last night. Looks pretty comfortable on the ball.

I don't think yesterday's game was representative of a team trying to hit us on the break. They were not even trying to hit on the break - at least not more than a player or two. They had taken the lessons of others sides on board. Instead of trying to cut out the passes from Trent and Robertson on the wings, just pack the box instead and let them pass without too much effort to stop them. The box is so crowded we can't get a shot in. And even if we do go through the centre via someone else it's the same issue. So they just didn't bother sticking anyone to try and get a third goal, as they had confidence to keep us out. It'd have been interesting if we did get the first early goal, as they'd have then had to decide between the same tactics as above, or actually try and score.

Yeah we've faced a lot of teams that pack their defence against us this season - I think when RM did that, you knew it was game over really. It'd have been interesting if we did get the first early goal, as they'd have then had to decide between the same tactics as above, or actually try and score.
On another note, Milly was pretty immense last night.
Yup, completely agree with the above. Teams have found a system that works against us and it's very effective. When we have possession, don't get pulled out wide, don't get pulled out into midfield. Just put in a low block the width of the area and we have no space to operate in.
I think we need midfielders trying more shots from well outside the area with our attackers following up for any rebounds. We also think we need more runners into the half spaces along the edge of the area, pulling it back from the byline - it's something Man City do incredibly effectively.
We definitely need to switch it up a bit for next season though, because our current system it just not effective any more. Especially when we have injuries and/or players are too tired to make the high press work.

We don't vary the play enough and play too slowly. We're pretty easy to play against if the opponent doesn't want, or need, to attack. We created almost nothing with a front four last night. As well as no threat from a shot from distance, we carry very little threat from set pieces.I think we need midfielders trying more shots from well outside the area with our attackers following up for any rebounds. I'm looking forward to everyone being fit next season if only to see what Thiago is meant to be good at.
TBF, I thought Real managed the game well. Several of our players looked tired last night.
Even with all of that, we still had enough chances to win.
