The Official Manchester United Thread (Vol 12)

Only saw the 2nd half, but seems fair. Hard to tell after they went down to 10, but feels like we deserved something at least. Thankfully VAR did it's job for once on the Red, we've been on the wrong end of that (Bruno vs Spurs) so good to see it come back.
Lots of industry, just not the sharp edge. Does feel like it's something fixable in the market though.

Dorgu is tragic. Wonder what our scouts saw in him….
Crazy stat popped up that Amorim has 6 wins in 23 games during his reign. For context Wolves have 6 in their last 6 under their new manager
Give the lad a break. A young 20 year, learning the game, playing in a tough league that's quicker and more demanding. Crazy stat popped up that Amorim has 6 wins in 23 games during his reign. For context Wolves have 6 in their last 6 under their new manager

Going to struggle initial while he learns and finds his feet.

Im allowed to say what I see, so far technically he looks way below the required level. We have other 20 year olds learning the game who look far better equipped. Going to struggle initial while he learns and finds his feet.
We moved Wan Bissaka on due to not being good enough on the ball, and signed a full back who at this stage of his career is far worse on the ball.
It doesn’t mean he can’t come good, but as I said I wonder what our scouts saw in him. It certainly wasn’t technical ability.

Please pull out your posts praising AWB. Are you saying Mazrouri is the replacement who’s’ worse on the ball? Bit more info needed.
Personally I think you’re completely wrong about Dorgu, just saying what I see. If it wasn’t technical ability do you think it was athleticism that attracted our recruiters to him?
Few questions there for you misery guts. Just saying what I see.
To continue
Tonight I saw a line up that Amorim wants to use on Thursday and he gave them time togther. Bilbao have had the weekend off.

The difference is he is a young player who is talented and has a higher ceiling than AWB. He is quick, strong, can run all day. Can play left and right side, but does need to improve on his passing and crossing. It's a big step up from the Serie A to the Prem so finding his feet and taken time to settle.
We saw multiple times AWB struggling as an attacking full back and how many fans wanted him sold. We used that money to invest in a younger player, with a high ceiling. Just needs time to develop.

Ok so you do agree - but any time I comment on the performance of say Hojlund or Dorgu your immediate reaction is "give the kid a break".The difference is he is a young player who is talented and has a higher ceiling than AWB. These are highly paid athletes earning a fortune to play for the club. We are a tiny handful of Man Utd fans in a little corner of the internet - it's not as if anyone is suggesting going around to these players houses to protest about their performances, it's just a comment on a forum.
I honestly don't see that there should be an age limit as to which players can have their performances commented on. We have a multitude of young players who have all stood out as having some great attributes despite their young age, and all have been praised at various times - Heaven, Yoro, Mainoo, Collyer, Garnacho for example. If we can highlight when young players do well, surely it’s fair to mention when others struggle.
I honestly didn't think I said anything controversial - so far Dorgu looks to have some massive weaknesses. His first touch is pretty poor (which by the way was obvious from the 10 minutes YouTube highlights video before we signed him, I mentioned at the time), his passing is really quite bad and he lacks composure. Those flaws are serious issues for a team that wants to play out from the back — and ironically, they were the same criticisms aimed at AWB, who we felt needed moving on so signing another player with similar issues is an odd move. Obviously the hope is that he improves these aspects of his game but the fact he's young doesn't guarantee he's going to be a world beater by the time he's 25 - AWB was signed with the hope we'd improve him and look how that worked out.
His physicality is presumably what attracted us, but that doesnt look a massive stand out in PL terms as of right now. It was a stand out in Italy, and he completely dominated the flank vs Sociedad too, but the PL is a different beast.
Again, I'm not saying we should sell the guy, or burn him at the stake. Just that based on the handful of PL games specifically so far it's a bit hard to see what got the scouts excited. Then again, it wouldn't be like them to get anything wrong would it

I just think that context needs to be applied to the younger players, as they are having to play more games then they should at this stage in their career. Especially in a struggling team, with issues on injuries and no respite in the toughest league in the world. They are developing as players, developing their skill sets with the hope they become excellent players for United.
I am not sure the Scouts where calling United saying we have the next Messi in relation to Dorgu. He would have been scouted because he met a number of requirements that we needed, but it was called out that he was raw and needed work in areas and would need to improve. That's why only cost 20m and is on a lower wage and signed as potential. If he was the finished article he would have cost double that.
I just roll my eyes when you see social media comments say who ever scouted that player should be sacked as they are rubbish. its not as easy as spotting a player and they are perfect for a club and the move works out 100%. Loads of players dont work at clubs, but then work at others.
I suspect over the next few years we will be signing alot more prospects, on lower fee's, lower salaries and avoiding the risks of big name charlies on high wages and high fee's that fail.

Yep, once they move to the club it is not as if the scout says how they should trained, positioned, etc. All of them make the best decisions based on some very early points in players' careers.I thought this could have been filmed at Old Trafford. We may as well laugh about where we are

In fairness Lee Dixon’s ‘we’re in stage 14 of arteta’s mastetplan ‘was funny .Big game today. Mildly optimistic for some reason. I think in part due to the physical advantage we had over Spanish opposition in the prior round, when we had Casemiro and Zirkzee outpacing people and Dorgu completely owning the left flank.
That said Bilbao will be tougher than Sociedad, and currently have the lowest goals against in the Spanish league. They are missing their top scorer though. Logic suggests it'll be tight and low scoring, but honestly who knows after a 5-4 last time out in this competition!
