Alexa, play Joy Division...

1 loss in 18 games is still bloody good though, but pressures on now especially as Burnley have found form now too.

We needed a performance and a result tonight and got both - back on top and a few nerves settled after that! 2-0 didn't reflect our superiority - especially in the 2nd half - but we got the job done which was the important thing. QPR will be tricky on Saturday but if we perform to our ability we can get a result there and hopefully put more pressure on Sheff Utd and Burnley...

Got there in the end. Much better in terms of desire and the midfield generally. Feel like you can tell the pressure is taking its toll a bit. Some rushed passes and such.

Good for Ao to get a goal after his slight shocker on Sunday.

Back to Burnley needing to probably get 2 more wins than us in 9 games.

Great set of results for us with the win last night and Burnley/SUFC/Sunderland all drawing on Tuesday.

I'm sure there'll be some other ups and downs in the run in in this crazy league. We lost to Portsmouth on Sunday who then lost to bottom club Plymouth to show how anybody can beat anybody else on their day.

Special mention to Tanaka, with a nicely taken goal finishing a good move by the team. He's really been a great buy. When I watch him I am amazed at his calmness under pressure from the opposition and his ability to make retaining possession look effortless.

Agreed. When he first arrived there were one or two rumours to the effect Farke hadn't been that keen to sign him but regardless of whether or not that's true I think he's proved to be one of our best players this season.

Is that correct? I thought the story was he wanted him last season but it didn't work out. Not that he didn't want him at all!

Wasn't the best performance but grew into it in the second half, it really frustrates me how late Farke leaves the subs... 86 mins is "make a wish" minutes, what's the point. Demoralises the benched players and more likely to pick up injuries with another game in 3 days.

This was the sort of article I had in mind but as I say I've no idea whether there was any substance to them - and even if there was I suspect Farke's pretty happy with the signing now!

Good to pick up a result after 2 dodgy ones.

Thought Tanaka and Rothwell were superb together. Ref again awful - dead level with the defender for the offside goal (superb finish from Piroe as well who I thought was great last night) and a two handed push in the face of James was it near the end and that push on James again for a free kick... Just awful.

Looking at remaining games:
QPR - don't get the fear of them. They're below Millwall in the league. Yes we messed up there last year but we messed up vs Crawley during the Bielsa years. Should we be scared of playing them this weekend? No.
Swansea - one of the worst teams I've seen us play this season.
Luton - another one of the worst teams we've played this year. Their performance at ER was absolutely laughable.
Boro & Preston - both slightly iffy but should get 3 points from those two games.
Finish with Oxford (awful), Stoke (awful), Bristol at home (seen what they did vs Sheff Utd and beat us earlier in the season so they'll be up for their cup final again) and then Plymouth who'll likely be dead and buried by then.

Realistically 5 wins from 9 should get us top 2 but honestly, I don't see why we can't get 7 or 8 wins from those remaining games...

We seem to perform best when we have a high workload, when players have to step up and graft, and worst when we have time to rest and heal. Bring those matches on!

Must admit, before this morning I hadn't seen the Burnley and Sheff Utd scores, and had just assumed they had both won, so that was a really nice surprise!

If we play to our potential we should finish top two but the Championship is very competitive and on a given day anyone can beat us if they play well and we're not quite at it and/or don't get the rub of the green on key decisions (witness Portsmouth last weekend). There's also an element other teams see us as a big scalp and are hence invariably well motivated to perform (again perhaps witness Portsmouth last weekend).

So we need to take one game at a time and assume every one is going to be a battle - we'll have to earn every win we get in those last nine games and I suspect it won't be easy regardless of how it might look on paper!

Another self inflicted mess up but yet again, not helped by an incompetent ref. Regardless, heading into the international break top which is better than last season...

Position wise yes but we've got two points fewer than after the same number of games last season and have taken only 5 points from a possible 12 in our last 4 games. If we maintain that strike rate for our last 8 games it will give us 90 points which will be exactly the same as last season (with, I fear, the same outcome).

I hate the international breaks but I think this one came at the right time!
