Dont shoot me! But I am going to mention “eBay tuning box”

So, I have a F31 330d, only had the car for 2 months and thus far it’s been a great tool. I was looking and readin at how tuning box’s work and for my needs they seem fine, just some more poke between roundabouts when the occasion arises.

I have had a remap before on my PD130 and transformed the car, so I wanted to see what a tuning box would do to the 330d for a small outlay of £60-80, as I have been changing my cars every 6-8 months lately, and I have been keeping an eye on the SQ5’s, so I don’t really want to sink £300-400 on a remap at present.

I don’t want to cause problems, as a remap works differently to a plug and play box on the CR.

So are these eBay boxes ok? Reviews say they are, but what are your thoughts?

Many thanks
Luke

At worst snake oil con
At best which is just as bad a simple resistor that fools the ecu that engine is running a bit cold and just over fuels with little discrimination for what the engine needs.

You only get what you pay for and that could be more trouble than benefit.

On Diesels most tuning boxes dummy the ECU into thinking the common rail fuel pressure is lower than it is, so it ups the pressure and thus increases fuel flow (there being little in the way of temperature compensation on a Diesel), it can result in pump and/or injector failure if taken to far (Delphi injectors for example are very intolerant) given the value of your car, why not get a reputable remap (ignoring how bad some remaps can be even from reputable places for the purposes here).
