Well maybe, just maybe, there's a hidden agenda at play, whereby HGVs are being forced off the road as "we" simply cannot sustain their use. Saying people want ten different types of bananas in supermarkets isn't justification for ramming our roads with trucks, really, it just isn't.
As mentioned, there just isn't enough space any more for thousands of vehicles on our roads, so something has to be done before it all grinds to a halt.
Voluntary restrictions will simply be laughed at and ignored, so the only other tool available to Govt and the like is to make life so damned difficult that it becomes impossible.
Please don't think this only applies to HGVs either. Witness the huge hike in car sales tax of late, where large cars are simply priced off the road to all but the super-rich.
Exactly the same has happened in London too, where LEZ, Congestion Charging, sky high parking charges and the sheer awkwardness of traffic restrictions make it non-viable to drive in town in an attempt to force people on to public transport.
If you think these draconian near-Communist measures threaten livelihoods and make life miserable you're absolutely right. It's just so unfair.
It won't change a thing though, so you can either bh and moan about it and achieve nothing, seek a new career and chill out, or work with/around increasingly tight Govt-backed restrictions like millions of other people in many other professions have had to do.
(Sorry about that)

In trying to sound clever, you make yourself look like a proper bell-end.

Well done.

Disagree? I have no idea what your point is, beyond a foolish belief that youre somehow better than a lorry driver.

You sound like a spoilt child man - sort yourself out.

Not at all. I just appreciate there's more to it than "me an' my rig".

Well the councils should provide toilets that are not full of wking perverts and litter bins that are actually emptied once in a while.

Fair point about some drivers being utter fking animals but to be honest that attitude comes from the facilities being non existant to begin with and the fed up drivers thinking bks to it, I need a st and there is nowhere.
How does the council stop wking perverts ? And take your litter home with you, it's not difficult is it?

Next point what's the point in providing toilets when truckers deem 200 yards too far so piss all over the truckstop, Some/many feckers are that lazy they do it in a bottle and leave 'truckers tizer' all over the place,.

Maybe truckers should use the 'few' facilities already provided properly before they are deemed fit to have any more?

PS good job getting around the language filter smile

Stop perverts by having actual Police in actual cars going to actual places.

Provide bins at these locations, 9 times out of 10 there is no bin. I will say that I do not litter so I do take my rubbish home but it might encourage those who don't if there was a bin. I actually find Car driver and fast food wrappers a worse problem, but then, there are many times more car drivers.

As for facilities, spend a week on the road and try to find a good toilet or shower. apart from a very few truckstops there is almost nowhere in this country.

It is a totally different story in mainland europe, the facilities are good and clean, I loved the German work I did because the attitudes toward trucks is so much better.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. I've only been doing the job a few years and the attitudes against truck drivers is something that stands out. Sadly, considering the amount of responsibility that goes with the job, it is very very poor, from all angles.

Aside - I mentioned some of the A34 laybys being too narrow. They could learn something from the laybys between the M25 and Aylesbury on the A41. Very ample.
