The video below of a Diahatsu/Piaggo Hijet that was converted seems along the lines of what I'd be thinking of, albeit I'd not be too fussed with having a fixed hob etc.

Cant fault the idea of a small/basic camper, although I would happily ditch the pointless decoration on the ceiling for having room to put my legs when sleeping! There is nothing more annoying that not being able to move at night.
You might as well atleast go for a transit connect size van as below, but then even a transit custom size drive so much like a car anyway.

A good friend bought an ex-NHS bloody van, which was insulated but not refrigerated, gave a square interior 'boarded out' with a wash down grp box into which they fitted a slide out bed, and little cabinet with I think a combined a sink and hob unit. 2x 25l container one for clean water one for collecting the waste as I recall, dont remember what happened with gas so maybe i remembered the hob bit wrong. The space under the bed/seat was storage for bags/food etc and the whole lot lifted out if you wanted it to be a van again. Had a tinted slide window fitted in the side door (wasn't much more fitted then supply only) but it could be proper stealth-camper, but with the window also got onto camp sites if they wanted to join others etc too.

Another friend at my current work has just done this with their bf. Before and after. Removed the bulkhead having consulted the internet on if it is needed for crash worthiness. Got someone to ply-line it for them, then whipped the panels off again, bit of acoustic damping mat on the panel, some rock/glass wood, carpet the ply, replace. Standard slide out bed. Done.

Hopefully they dont mind me sharing the photos, but I think they have done a boss job, keep it simple and get it done.

I’d go for Travelodge at £25 a night.

What about a Tent Box?

Effectively a camper pop top, on the roof of your car.

I ended up buying a Caddy with a decent bed the fella had made out of old pallets, and leisure battery up setup

Does the job but I can't sit up in the back. Not paying thousands for a pop roof of high top, so I can either make the bed/ bench lower or switch the front seats to some from a Touran, which would fold so I'd essentially be sitting on them folded flat so I can face the rear. Seen on a forum where someone put swivel seats in but required a lot of work. Or I can just get curtains/ tints and sit in the front but then you have to get out the van to get in to the back or climb over. Even hatchback folding seats would make life easier in that respect.

In short I need new front seats of some sort.
