It will be when you've finished with it. That's so long as the engine doesn't go the same way as Mr E's.

The amount of money under the bonnet.. That really does not bear thinking about!

I can't understand the text (Dutch?)

Yes, sorry about that, it was the only source I could find.

The article basically says that it's built on a custom powdercoated chassis out of 2 mm gauge steel with Opel Commodore front suspension, a narrowed Ford rear axle w/85% locking diff, Jaguar rear suspension, a Ford Granada radiator and rear wheels consisting of widened Citroën rims with the inner portion that fits the hub and is concealed by the OE 2cv hubcaps, from a Chevy. Damping is by adjustable Koni's all round. Braking is with vented Opel discs at the front and solid Volvo discs on the rear, and the steering column is from an Opel. The handbrake system consists of a brake disc on the driveshaft, actuated by a Mini lever. The heater is from a Mini, too. The fuel tank is home made from stainless steel and the car has a steel roll cage. Tyre sizes are 145/15 front, and 215/60/15 rear.

It also says that over the course of three years, the guy that built it went through 40,000 Dutch guilders (£13K ish) and six girlfriends!

How about a Volvo 440 Turbo? Horrible to look at, nasty to drive, but much, much quicker than people expect. Note - that's quicker, not quick.

Lancia Thema 8.32, Ferrari 3.2 V8 engine...0-60mph in 5.2 secs iirc?

I really like these, but I'm pretty sure it was based on the 3.0 litre from the 308 - I think 8.32 was 8 cylinders 32 valves.

0-60 in 5.2 sounds too quick - over a second quicker than the 308 - but I'll let justayellowbadge correct one or the other of us.

Indeed you are correct, it was in fact the 308 and not the 328 engine. I only said it was to test who was awake today! Alright then perhaps I just had a senior moment, seem to be having a lot of those lately!

As for the 0-60, I too thought that 5.2 secs sounded too quick but I went by some road test figures that I came across, which I reckon are a wee bit optimistic!

Edited to add that it actually says 7.2secs. Doh, me not stooopid!

It wouldn't exactly be a surprise to see a fast Subaru, BMW or even Jag so I don't think any of these are Q-cars. I like the dolomite sprint thingy, the Lancia and maybe a old old shape Audi S6 plus with the 32v 4.2 V8

Bet noone knew those existed!

Excellent. A real labour of love then.

I think this car has to qualify for "Ultimate Sleeper", surely?

Having said that, wasn't there a Renault 4 van on eBay a while back that was basically a rebodied Esprit? That sounds a laugh too.

Granted, not these days. However in the early 90's Subarus were virtually unheard-of outside the farming community and had a reputation as being reliable, yet dull, on-off roaders. The Impreza Turbo shattered the mould and for a few glorious years was a real Q-car.
Sadly it is now a victim of its own success, but that is another story.

Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9, long time ago but it was a great car, very underated at the time.
It didn't have too many electronic gizmos but it did have a dirty great V8 engine that shifted its bulk at an alarming rate for such a big car. If I could buy any new saloon car ever made it would be one of those.

Call off the dogs - this one does it for me. Just remember this was the S55AMG and Matbach of its time all rolled into one, with the price tag to match; new in 1975, MBUK rushed you a cool £23k for one of these babies......

Let me add a couple of Garret T-25's to the X-type's 3.0 litre after I get it back from the shop. Question: Anybody know if the (manual) transmission could handle it? GavinPearson?

For me a Q car is one that surprises me when it disappears up the road or when I drive it. Cars like the Lotus Carlton can be spotted from any angle as being more than the rep version. The Vantage version of an Aston is no more a Q car than an Aston is.

The Lotus Carlton is very restrained on bodywork and looks mostly like a Gsi version.

As for you (presumably) thinking Im talking about the Vantage version of the Virage, well, that prooves my point about the Turbo'd Virage exactly!

Yes, they are very similar to a Gsi - well, apart from the exterior that is.

Still like those RS2's, although they only out-accelerate an F1 to 30mph
and with the bodykit and large red Porsche Calipers hardly Q but still an estate

If your talking modified cars, then you can't really get more Q than the Fensport Corrola, really does look standard, but its done a 10.3sec 1/4 mile and has been offically timed at over 200mph.
