Q cars? Maybe the most overlooked wolf in sheep's clothing is the Daimler Majestic Major - bags of power, 120mph+ top speed (and a 45ft turning circle).

i just read through this whole thread before realising it covers almost half a decade

no one mentioned that the lancia thema 2.0 16v turbo was faster to 60 than the ferrari engined one, though i think it gets spanked on top speed

carry on... tongue out

A friend has just bought a 4.5L 5-series on an M-plate for 250 squids!

Looks like a pretty much standard 5-series with the 540 badge the only hint of what it has. After a little TLC I bet it'll be ready for the road to scare all the chavs in their LED laiden cars hehe

I think a lot of people have missed the OP's point.
It says "porsche chasers" and people are posting about some st mobiles that do 0-60 in 7 seconds.
I think these days you'd be hard pressed to find a modern unassuming looking car that DOESN'T do that.

One of these for me please

Lancia Thema 8.32, Ferrari 3.2 V8 engine (essentially the same lump as in the Ferrari 328 but de-tuned ever so slightly for more torque. And I think that the engine was built on the Ducati production line rather than the Ferrari one.

0-60mph in 5.2 secs iirc?

Ph'er justayellowbadge will know more than me.
great shout!

The Lotus Carlton is very restrained on bodywork and looks mostly like a Gsi version

AND

Right then. You might be able to, but if one pulls up beside me or I see one behind me, I wouldnt be able to tell that easily if it was a Lotus or not and neither would 99% of other road users which is what a Q car is meant to be about.
I would not want you as a witness in a murder trial - what colour was it (as we all know, practically EVERY LC was green), did it have a bigger chin than Michelle McManus, did it have fat flared arches, bonnet vents - all of these are plainly visible from the front. And that's ignoring totally different body kit, much bigger wheels and brakes and Lotus badges in yellow on the sides, and as for the back.....

Woudl you like to buy a Citroen Saxo West Coast, just like the VTS, only cooler smile

Plus when it surged past, no-one could be in any doubt - it's about as Q as Ru Paul.
Even ignoring all the giveaways that tonker mentioned, the problem is you 'd be surprised to see a regular carlton on the road these days in the first place, kind makes you more suspicious to it doesn't it.

"there is a carlton looming in my rearview mirror, I wonder if it's the lotus one or has someone actually bothered to keep the vauxhall version roadworthy?"
