The thread being 2 years old makes the old fella 95yo now.
Also noticed the tv show on today about his life is a repeat, probably seen it before but it's got to be better than the awful dancing, and X factor.

I watched it last night. It's not a repeat, it was specially made for his 95th birthday and was very good.

It is a repeat unfortunately, with some 95th birthday congratulations from the main contributors tacked on the end. Still, was well worth watching again for me.

By its very nature, most of the content was going to be 'repeats'.

I loved the Back to the Future feature he did on C4's British GP coverage this year, great to see him on the telly again. Did anyone else watch it?
I watched that. Generally speaking he has always made an appearance for the British GP and its usually the terrestrial network rather than Sky.

I found it quite hard to watch as he really was looking very frail.

He is also one of F1's red pass holders, which means he has full paddock and grid access for life. This is usually a pass thats only given to world champions.

I still have very fond memories of his commentary as Hill crossed the line in Suzuka. It was a genuine emotional wobble. Not something you see with the current commentators on Sky or Ch4.

He did come out with some crackers. At the time his style irritated me a bit but then he retired and I missed him. His knowledge and enthusiasm made his excitement contagious without me realising that it was him making a race memorable not the cars or drivers. Obviously they helped, but mostly as material for Murray. My interest in F1 has dwindled since he retired.

And I miss yelling at the TV.

Murray: "Don't forget, IF is Formula 1 backwards!"
Me: "NO, IT ISN'T, MURRAY!"

Happy days.

Happy days indeed, I grew up watching F1 with Murray’s commentary and it was his sheer enthusiasm that came across above anything else.

Happy Birthday Murray.

Could say the same about Croft - but in a less good way!

Happy Birthday Murray!

Random story - when I was a young, F1 loving fan, I wrote to MW with a random letter - this would be mid-90’s at the height of his fame/commitments - he wrote a hand written letter back!! Legend.
