Legit streaming of F1 in 2019

Due to F1 not being free to air this year I've been looking into legit streaming options rather than using Kodi/Acestream but it looks like the only legal option available is to pay over £500 a year for Sky.

I don't watch other types of sport (apart from occasionally Cycling on Eurosport) and already have Netflix and Prime so this isn't decent value for money, just wondered if there's any cheaper options?

A few years back Doritos used to do day passes and people used to stock up on them simply for the pass but this doesn't seem to happen anymore, a day pass for the weekend comes in at £24 which is too much imo.

Noticed that in other European countries you can get official streams in HD for £42 a year so it seems a bit poor it's not allowed in the UK considering how many fans there are here.

NOW TV has week passes for Sky Sports without a subscription

£14.99 for a week pass so you can pay for the weeks you want to watch F1 and get all the other Sky sports channels as well.

The NOW TV stick is £14.99 to buy and you can use it for Youtube, Netflix, etc

I suspect the only alternative is a NowTV pass at £8.99 for 24 hours.

As above, Sky own the broadcasting rights to F1 in the UK, so you either have to have Sky Sports F1, or a Sky Sports Now TV package. Those are the only currently legit ways to watch in this country.

F1 TV as the OP discussed will not be available in this country until Bernie's Sky deal expires in 2024.

Depends on your definition of "legit".

With a VPN and a friend overseas (to pay, as I think they track on billing address) you could watch an official feed. No-one is being "defrauded" and F1 would be receiving the money.

It would probably be against their terms, but not illegal.

The lack of coverage is going to have a seriously negative impact on viewing figures. I doubt many who haven’t signed up to Sky already are suddenly going to.

I certainly fall into that camp and I’ve watched F1 pretty religiously since I was a kid.

It's my personal choice to not fund Sky so I can't really complain that much but the ones I feel sorry for are the many youngsters whose parents don't or won't have Sky. There is nothing they can really do to be able to watch it live and they're the future. They're just going to be attracted to the motorsport that offers free streaming if they're attracted to any motorsport at all.

Which is what will really hurt the future of the sport. You can’t attract a new generation of fans if they can’t tune in.

But they have their hands tied until contracts are up for renewal. Then they can remodel based on Youtube, etc.

Highlights will still be available on Channel 4 though, so I doubt viewing figures will drop that much..

I live in Germany, and I used this service last year. They use the SKY commentary for the race. You do not get interviews, etc, just Brundle and Crofty for the race. They had issues earlier in the season, but the quality is much improved. I found the computer stream was 30 to 60 seconds behind the actual race.

Same for me. I've got mates who were keen on F1 but, over the years, interest has dropped. Last season I watched most races with family. Yet there used to be half a dozen or more of us swapping emails and stuff. I saw the occasional one and we'd start of by me telling them what has happened.
I've got one mate who's a nerd. Yet we go to HSCC, VSCC, Silverstone Classic and GFoS, not F1 any more.

What will get the 15 year olds interested now? A bit in (one?) newspaper? Recorded highlights? To be fair, it was mainly highlights until the BBC went 'live' for most races and I was still riveted. But nowadays I feel people expect live. Five years with just the British for most might not kill it, but it won't be very well.

I can see F1 falling off my radar. If the NowTV pass was £5 for qualifying and the race I'd be tempted, but £8.99 for one day is too strong for me personally, particularly when I consider what a yawnfest a lot of races turn out to be. Perhaps when F1's sponsors see their exposure dropping off a cliff they'll tell Chase Carey to grow a spine and tear up Bernie's Sky contract.

It doesn't work like that. Early termination / exit clauses will be substantial.

Last year there was an F1 NowTv deal - £150 for 10 months. It was for the whole sports pack, so split the cost with a footy mad mate?
