Where are they starting the count to get to their 1,000th GP I wonder.

Presumably that now means that Ferrari’s 1000th Grand Prix will be Azerbaijan rather than Monaco.
Not really what they would have wished for I suppose.
I suppose it must mean that. Sad for Monaco too really, would have been quite some weekend I'm sure.

Probably still will be at Monaco. Some nuance about "1000th scheduled race", etc. Doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

Like everything, it depends on the point from where you start counting. Ferrari (as a team) entered its first Grand Prix in the 1930s. It would have entered its first Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1947 or so. It entered its first World Championship Grand Prix in 1950 (like everybody else who was around at the time).

I'd hope so. No offense to Azerbaijan.. but for me I'd rather see Monaco taken over by team red.

And as said by Eric, it hardly matters how accurate the celebration is.

Upside is it will be good for the teams.

With such a marathon season, 2 breaks from travel might help (esp the smaller teams who can't rotate staff as easily)

Also no factory shutdown in this gap so may create an opportunity for an accelerated "phase 2" car for some?

Only three races before the European season however, will teams bring updates for Holland rather than Spain? I suppose it could mean if someone gets something drastically wrong it gives them a huge chance to run simulations hard.

It would be good if they ran an extra test session somewhere but I suspect logistics would put pay to that.

Well, I know you prefer to deal only in facts. And to be fair, I see some hours after the official cancellation of the GP was announced and discussed here on the China thread, you repeated that fact on the wrong thread - a useful and factually based contribution indeed. My inanity got me there about a week earlier, on the correct thread.. but I'll try and limit such useless input in the future wink

Oh no! Look at this! More speculation biggrin

All those 'if's' and '?'s' ... 'suppose', 'suspect'...

Tut tut... You're making this place out to be some sort of internet discussion forum!!

That would be nice - a proper circuit.

I don't suppose it would suit modern F1's excessive requirements.

It’s Grade 1 (safety), with all the room for the modern gin palaces.

Proper track (anti-clockwise too).

Could the race still be called the Chinese Grand Prix?

I know Imola's not in China, but it was never in San Marino either!

I'd love F1 to return to Imola. If it replaced China dates, I could see it working logistically too. But to hit those dates brings back the same problems - it's a very limited timeframe to organise it all and it would require ten teams to agree to the change, when it's no secret most (if not all) already feel the season is too heavy.

I'd love to be proven wrong however!

We had a Swiss GP in France too.

So far though, they've only jumped country. They haven't jumped continent yet.

Well here is the list of FIA grade 1 racing circuits that could host an F1 race:

  • Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari - Italy
  • Autódromo Fernanda Pires da Silva - Portugal
  • Buddh International Circuit - India
  • Buriram International Circuit - Thailand
  • Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours - France
  • Circuit Ricardo Tormo - Spain
  • Circuito de Jerez - Spain
  • Ciudad del Motor de Aragón - Spain
  • Dubai Autodrome - UAE
  • Fiorano Circuit - Italy
  • Fuji Speedway - Japan
  • Indianapolis Motor Speedway - USA
  • Istanbul Park - Turkey
  • Korea International Circuit - South Korea
  • Kuwait Motor Town - Kuwait
  • Kymi Ring - Finland
  • Losail International Circuit - Qatar
  • Mugello Circuit - Italy
  • Sepang International Circuit - Malaysia
Now I understand that most of these cannot be used due to logistics and spectator facilities but there is no shortage of replacements.

That's an interesting list - thanks.

In reality, how many are actually suitable? To be suitable one or more of these would need to:

- Be available on the require weekend
- Be able to get ready in time
- Have the infrastructure and facilities to host a modern F1 weekend
- Want to host
- Be able to sell tickets in time (Which some fondly missed circuits probably could imo)
- Be in the right place for the logistics to be practical
- Satisfy the FIA walkaround
- Have permission granted for a global event from the local authorities and/or government depending on country

At which point the list starts to shrink - perhaps to zero results..
