Formula 1 Virtual Grand Prix Series Launched
Discussion
I too watched the F1 and while having celebs involved might draw a few viewers in, the quality of driving wasnt great was it. Lando/Max are OK as they are very experienced at it.
I dont know who was driving in the IMSA race (gamers, real drivers ?) but quality of driving seemed better. Having the proper commentators helped a lot too. I thought it was pretty decent.
Not watched the NASCAR thats linked above. Will watch that this arvo on a second PC while "working from home"

F1 is hamstrung by using what is a 'game' instead of a sim - and too many guest drivers. They really need all/majority of their drivers to take part to make it an event.
I agree. It can't be anything other than watching a bunch of people playing a computer game whilst it is simply a bunch of people playing a computer game.
For it to be proper virtual racing, it needs to be run on simulators not games.
(I realise there is a grey area / overlap between a game and a simulator)
The Indycar race from last night is definitely worth a watch. Trounces the F1 offering, they used iRacing and had the proper graphics and commentary teams.

5 more rounds on various tracks, including a non-Indy track final.

Will have a watch of that I think. Often useful as well to have a look on Twitch/YouTube for the drivers streaming from their end.The major issue with that though is time synchronisation. They can a bit ahead or behind each other. It's like when you're watching Le Mans via many free streams and team streams. None of them are happening at the same time.

They've just finished a few practice races and it was brilliant to hear the banter between all of them. Would be great to have the same in a real race.edit: Jimmy's F1 practice

is it just me or does twitch not buffer the stream when you pause? I can synch the youtube streams near enough by pausing and resuming but twitch just jumps back to "live" when you resume. The major issue with that though is time synchronisation. And now there's this one, a 'Pro Exhibition Race'

Edit. This one is the e-sports pro drivers.

Just got round to watching the Melbourne race last night, much better - more entertaining and a better quality of racing.
“Russell in the Williams in second place” on the first lap, is not a phrase I have heard before
Definitely worth keeping on it with as many F1 drivers are willing and a few wildcards thrown in.
It’s not F1, but it a substitute for now.
Off to price up console, games, steering wheel and pedal set ups.... 50th birthday present coming up (sad, deluded old man)

The F1 offering is probably the worst of the mainstream sim series going on now. Uses a game rather than a simulator, nowhere near all the drivers taking part and guest drivers who aren't even racing drivers.
The Aussie Supercars series yesterday was a breath of fresh air. Just enough humour without taking it all as a joke, every single driver present and top level commentary. The commentary makes a massive difference.
