Having taken a break from hill climbing and buying a road car I was looking forward to some road trips to spectate at motorsport events in 2020.

Covid has wiped out Goodwood events and Classic LeMans. LeMans may still run in September but otherwise can anyone recommend any events that are going ahead and would make a good weekend away as a spectator?

I appreciate its possibly too soon to say for many but any advice welcome..

I think the answer is at the moment we just don't know. All the events that I am aware of, are being planned as non spectator events.

The only sizeable events I've seen that are still (on paper) open to crowds are the Le Mans 24hrs and Spa 24hrs.

And, who knows if they'll end up being spectator events or even be enjoyable to watch running in winter weather.

Some of the later Nurburgring races might allow crowds as it is big enough for people to spread out.

Not sure where you are OP? Could be a nice run up to Knockhill in August for the BTCC although if goes ahead I think they are going to have to cut back on the number a bit as it is usually quite crowded.

Thanks for that. Never been to knock hill but it looks fantastic. Hoped to sprint there last year in BSC but missed it, ( and the weather turned out great ).

Deffo a possibility so thanks for the heads up..

MotoGP are running a good chunk of the remainder of the season's races.

Assuming that you actually want to attend, rather than watch on tv then, it is a moving target at the moment, with the government hinting about removing the 2 metre rule, but nothing is yet confirmed. Whether that will allow spectators at sporting fixtures and whether Scotland will follow suit is anyone's guess. At the moment spectators are very unlikely to be allowed at Knockhill in August.

MotoGP have said that spectators are unlikely this year, but again that might change. The British round has been cancelled anyway, so you would have to go abroad to watch it, which might be problematic.

There was a statement from someone, think it might have been formula 1, that they hoped to fans spectating before the end of the year.

I guess they're all waiting on whatever arbitrary stipulations our glorious leaders conjure up. I guess most series could allow limited numbers through the gate at fairly short notice.

The main problem for the organisers is that it takes weeks / months to prep a venue for a large number of spectators and also employ the right number of staff for the event itself. There's a significant cost and all of the risk that comes along with that. So would expect that everyone will be very cautious for a good while yet.

We are still hoping to get to the Circuit des Remparts, Angouleme in mid-September. It was all booked - along with a preceding 10 days in the South of France - back in December.

Castle Combe autumn classic is worth a look if they open it up to spectators though it got a bit cringeworthy last year as people decided to dress up (very badly) and it looked like a Poundland version of Goodwood. Track action was good though.

I would imagine there might be some smaller club meetings that might be possible later in the year, but the way the PM is going it might be sooner rather than later! We have to see if there is a second wave, all those at beaches this week are the likely culprits sadly

The first VLN at the Nürburgring on Saturday was without spectators.
Empty stands and empty Grid. No spectators.

We hope that 24 hours of the Nürburgring will be held with the spectators.

Le Mans according to today's announcement, as long as you've already got a ticket.

Some enterprising individual has opened a drive in "socially distanced" cinema in brent cross, we're off to see Reginald Hunter week after next. Wife being an Aussie was amazed its never really been a thing in Blighty. Wonder what scope there is for racetracks to do something - the inside banking at brands comes to mind. Guess for something like BSB/ BTCC etc tickets would be hugely sought after.

Have you been before? I only found out about it after we stopped off in Angouleme on the way back from Eurocamping in the Dordogne. Looks like it could be good fun.

No - this will be our first. I stumbled across it last year, but too late to get tickets or accommodation so I booked everything nice and early for this year. Been to Angouleme many times over the years and never noticed anything about this, it flew under my radar for a long time.

Nothing I've booked is refundable though...
