Croft has to go

Martin Brundle brings a lot to the coverage. Not just his (admittedly dated) experience from way back when, but his ability to compare and contrast that with today's Formula 1, plus he's knowledgable, humorous and well liked.
It's not clear to me what, if anything, Croft brings to the table...
Pies, I think...It's not clear to me what, if anything, Croft brings to the table...
I think the issue is it feels like he's almost working off a script. He'll be given a list of meaningless stats and (what appears to be) pre-prepared puns to shoehorn in. And he won't deviate from it, even if something else is happening. The number of times something happens on screen but he's either too busy reading from the stats sheet, or too desperate to finish his godawful joke that he won't interrupt (or let someone else interrupt) to comment on what's happening.
He's not suited to live TV, at least not fast paced, so stumbles when things don't go like he expects. Gets corrected by Martin/Ted/Karun/Bernie and he'll quickly brush over it and move on. Something like a bit of bad language slipping through in an interview or cool down room, and he awkwardly goes quiet and mumbles an apology.

With so many (on here) thinking Crofty should go I'm wondering who would get the popular vote to replace him? be interesting to see a poll.... if it hasnt already been done...
I liked the guy who's replaced him at a couple of races this season, Harry Benjamin. It's really important he doesn't get shouty though. I think perhaps Sky encourages this. The bloke on Channel 4 has become intolerably shouty. paulguitar said:

Whoever replaces David Croft will be a massive improvement, let's hope it happens, if it doesn't were looking at another year of earache.
Would you like Jonathan Legard back? paulguitar said:

Would you like Jonathan Legard back? Luckily I don't think Legard is likely to be on the shortlist.
Hmm, so if interviewing potential candidates the list of qualities might be… (in no particular order)…
Understands F1 regs
Understands technical aspects of the cars
Can think quickly and not misunderstand what’s actually going on
Knows who’s driving what car
Doesn’t shout
Acknowledge those who know more and listen to them
Maintain focus (not quote irrelevant stats from 20 or more years ago)
Maintain some humility and dignity
Show some respect to fellow presenters
Fess up when you’ve fecked up don’t try and pretend you haven’t
Anything else?

Never really saw the issue with Legard, he is a very well respected journo and was not shouty or whatever, preferred him over Croft any day of the week.
But then have you ever had Carlton Kirby forced on you while watching Le Mans, it literally made me turn the sound down so utterly awful was it, yet these people maintain careers for decades so some of us must be well away from the mark I suppose!!

I could live with most of them prior to Croft tbh. Legards "battle is joined!" BS used to grind a bit, but he had a reasonable idea of when to shut up, IIRC.But then have you ever had Carlton Kirby forced on you while watching Le Mans, it literally made me turn the sound down so utterly awful was it, yet these people maintain careers for decades so some of us must be well away from the mark I suppose!!
