Even with someone as unlikable as Mazepin, it's pretty dismal to see a driver struggling this much. Other than a bit of schadenfreude it adds absolutely nothing to the sport.

More mistakes = more frustration = more mistakes, and so on. Here's hoping he completes this race, and gains a bit of experience and confidence in what appears to be a rather uncooperative car.
It probably adds about $50m to the sport.. that's the reality.

Although christ knows why his dad wants to pay such money to have his son look like a plonker in front of a billion people 20 odd times a year confused

You mean bin it like Max in Hungary?

Give Mazespin some credit, I think he will get to lights out, but then be all aggressive at the back.

The problem with his erratic driving is when the leaders are going to lap him. I fear the worst.

Fair comment!

But yes, I can state with some certainty that it's possible to look a tt on a much tighter budget. The cost of half a bottle of tequila, for example.

Well... He waited until the last moments, but he did manage to spin again today smile

This guy is going to set records.

The Haas model is similar to the Aston model.
You’re doing Aston Martin a major disservice there, that team has a long history of designing and building great cars as you know. The skills and assets within the Aston Martin team are much greater.

It was an achievement to finish the race today but I couldn’t help but notice that Schumacher was 50 seconds behind Mazepin after his accident and 30 seconds in front by the end.

Finishing last, miles behind your team mate wouldn't normally be much of an achievement.

But granted, he did finish and with just one small spin - which is better than expected..

One small spin and bumper cars with Latifi. Whether that was on him or on Latifi, contact was made.

I have been slating Mazepin since he was signed and assumed he was to blame when the commentators first said that he had been involved in an accident- but that crash was entirely Latifi’s mistake.

Mick's spun in both races so far and has been fortunate on both occasions to avoid race ending damage.

Drivers having a spin or off yesterday include Verstappen, Hamilton, Leclerc, Alonso, Sainz, Perez to name but a few. I think some credit is due to both rookie Haas drivers just for finishing the race.

I am not certain but it is quite possible that it was the first time in the wet in an F1 car for the rookies.

What could have caused race ending damage when he spun on his own at Bahrain turn 4?

I would suggest that when one spins one is not in control of one's vehicle. He could have collected his team-mate or another driver.

He did not choose to spin at that very point in the race. Or did he.....? scratchchin

hehe

To say Schumacher was fortunate to avoid race ending damage in Bahrain is simple hyperbole.
