The reason i comment about all of this is because I worked in f1 briefly, saw the inside of it, realised what it was and that turned me off a lot, yet i still hanker for it to be great, it isn't! Sadly, yet it really could be, if it were not run the people that run it.
And the EV thing is because I work in the industry so I have a vested interest. Also, its a DISCUSSION forum so I can say what I like in any area as long as I am not abusive or contravening the rules. So erm there.

F1 is a huge business. It always has been, there is no chance of it being anything but. I didn't suggest you couldn't or shouldn't discuss. I just questioned the amount of time you spend so much time in two forums for things you don't agree with.. the same way you question why people spend money on the things they do. Although those spending money obviously do actually like the things they spend it on.
We used to be the main market.
Now it is "brand new customers only" - they want to crack the US and Asia markets.
Expect the grid walks to get worse - a lot worse.
What the last GP demonstrated was that Liberty want to flood the grid with quantity not quality in the hope that every celeb tweets their backside off to boost TV ratings.
It's F1 Jim, but not as we know it.
Very sad days - and I fear that a lot of the historical circuits will be dispensed with for...

It can be a bit of a trial with some of the buildups but you can always not start watching till the grid sets off on the warm up lap.
What the hell does anyone say that has any value anyway? Even if he only spoke to F1 people its just the same bland stuff you know already.
My 2 bobs worth, it was a bit over the top considering the reality seems to be wandering around in the shadow of some flyovers and car parks, a lot of it out of the sun in sunny miami.
Did all the 30000 vips pay or do they get a freebie?
Cant see how it lost money but I expect they will bump up the cost a bit to compensate next year.
So thats 2 races I wiill never attend. Miami and Vegas which seems odds on to be the same atmosphere.

Unless a 'celebrity' gets seriously hurt during a gridwalk, possible with all the commotion and hazardous materials knocking about, things won't change.
I watched it mouth opened as moron after moron who clearly knew nothing about the sport, posed and spouted catchphrases. I pity team personnel trying to work in that environment, imagine trying to solve a complex technical problem under tremendous time pressure with somebody mouthing off a couple of feet away.
By all means have a VIP area where these people can hang out, show it on camera if you like, but not on the grid. You don't have a load of celebs on a football pitch right up to kick off.

I did once see an interview with Adam Savage, host of the Mythbusters show, where he said that they did seriously look at trying to stage an F1 car driving upside-down - but no-one would lend them an F1 car, and it would have likely needed numerous expensive modifications to fuel and lubrication systems to actually run upside-down. But the laws of aerodynamics say it definitely can!

Yup most races you see the VIP areas milling with people uninterested in the race. However: That's the whole point of having loadsamoney, it gives you choices and these people I guess choose to attend a race so they can tick that box.I am guilty of it myself. Many years ago a supplier who I was visiting kept telling me how he had the treat of a lifetime for me. I hope he didn't spot my jaw drop in disappointment when we pulled up at Newcastle United football ground that was full to capacity and we went in a box with dinner etc. The atmosphere was good to experience, the full stadium was impressive but as for what went on the pitch I have no idea. Not interested at all, no idea what the match was etc. Completely wasted on me. There would have been fans that night who would have loved to have had my place.... in fact I'd have loved them to have had it !
I’m not in the position that I’d be gifted VIP tickets to events. Any tickets would be from my own pocket. Unless fairly wealthy it is a hard one to look at in terms of value.
Thought about it for Le Mans, but just not sure I’d get my monies worth or whether it would enhance the weekend. You’d feel like you are attached to it to make it worthwhile for the outlay, which would detract from the event.
Stayed in gites one year, in one of them were some Pirelli PR ladies. They were moaning about their experience with access all areas. I did bite their heads off a bit saying actual fans would kill for that level of access and shame it is wasted.
I have treated my dad to some vip at cricket matches though for special occasions. Clearly we were the odd ones out who had personally paid for it.
There were people watching the cricket on the TV, literally with their backs to it actually happening behind them with private seating to watch it!! Plus a couple of spots of rain, with play continuing, everyone else disappeared inside as if it was pouring down, so it was literally just the two of us in the seating area. Again, signs it was all a freebie and not much invested in the event.

Had a friend who got me F1 Paddock Club passes at Silverstone for two GPs. The first year I sat on a table with half a dozen corporate types and a nerd. He and I got on, and our enthusiasm was seen by the host, a chap called Michael Holt. Lovely bloke. He took us into the pits just after qually where we were ignored by the drivers, grunted at by Ron Dennis and had the mickey taken out of us good-naturedly by an Aussie mechanic. He was informative, friendly and candid(ish). What made it for me was the rather expensive pits walkabout mob that came along halfway through my stay there. They were the other side of the tape. My nerdish new friend and I wandered out to the dedicated stand for the first FP of the day. I asked Holt if I had a specific seat and he actually laughed. Nerd, me and a couple of others were the only ones there to see the start. Qually was almost as bad, with some of the others deigning to turn out after half way. Once at the stand, they continued talking about the food, particularly at the German GP.
Both days were fabulous experiences and I remember them fondly. However, I wanted the crowd from Club to be there, with an unholy scrum for the best seats for FP, and a few trampled for qually.
Worth the money? I didn't pay, but for me, certainly but a one-off at their prices.
The food was nice, and the service was friendly.
Resurrecting a thread but just watched Brundle and that Machine Gun Kelly scene and feels like grid walks must be about fit for the bin.
Tbh, I’ve always been on Brundle’s side with some of the more rude encounters but he came across pretty poorly there.
I don’t know much about said Machine gunner, but he obviously struggled with an english accent and the noise and then tried to at least have a bit of a laugh but Brundle wouldn’t give back at all.
I know he hates doing them so what’s the point?? They’re absolute s

Yesterday was brilliant - asking Bernie about the tax avoidance/court outcome was hilarious. The look on Bernie's face was glorious.
I know he's getting on but my first though was how he'd aged recently. You could tell his thought process was slowing down. Bernie even last year would have come back much quicker.I like the grid walk. It's embarrassing and awkward for all concerned but that's why it's fun.
